Saw this on D1Baseball board.

Runner leaves 2nd on the windup. Runner at 3rd leaves when the pitcher plants his off foot. Bunt goes down, no chance at the guy from third. In all the rush, the ball goes to first for the out and the guy from 2nd gets in for the score. Two RBI suicide squeeze. Never heard of it.

Vandy did it Saturday vs So Carolina, Houston did it Sunday vs ECU and Zona did it today vs BYU.

Three times in one weekend. Good grief.

That's awesome and odd at the same time. Great for the teams that accomplished it, embarrassing for the teams that let it happen.

Bet it has created some buzz today. Probably every team in the country went out on the diamond and practiced against it.

Saw another unusual play Sunday in the Minnesota/Iowa game. Iowa was rallying in the top of the eighth with runners on second and third and 1 out down 5-3. Batter hits a deep fly ball to left and both runners tag. Gophers have a good relay and throw the guy out going to third. The runner going home let up and didn't cross home plate before the out at third. So no run counted and the Gophers were out of the jam. Iowa coach was pissed, first at the umps and then at his own players.

I saw that also. Interesting to me was that the umpire makes the safe signal to indicate that the run does not count. If it had counted he would have pointed to the plate.

Ran it a couple times as a high school coach. When it works, you're a genius. When it doesn't, you're an idiot. It's exciting, nevertheless.
