his record in 1961 was 3 - 6 - 1. Tippy Dye fired him and hired Bob Devaney who took the same team in 1962 to a 8 - 2 record and never looked back.
I have heard Bill was a very nice man. He was supposed to have been a good recruiter with an eye for talent. He had some big wins. Most noteworthy was breaking Oklahoma's consecutive win streak. So you always felt like next year was going to be better, but I don't think he ever had a winning season. His sideline behavior was very composed, he was not a yeller and a screamer. I believe he went on to have a successful career as a referee.
