Will having 2-3 scholarships open (correct me if I am wrong), has anyone heard of any prospects on our board? Scholarship transfers?

Someone on the offensive line wouldn't be a bad idea. That and NT I think are the biggest priorities for a grad transfer.

i doubt Oline is worry of the coaches. They didn’t go after one single JUCO Olinemen and seemed content with 6.0 4 star Turner Corcoran and Alex Conn. It might be your worry and a few others on the board but I really doubt it’s a worry of theirs. Bryce Benhart should be ready to rock next year at OT (unless he hit brick wall suddenly) which will allow Matt Farniok to FINALLY move to his true position at OG and that will give us, at the least, a solid Oline.

And I’d have to assume Damion Daniels, Ty Robinson, J Green, and/or C Rogers should be ready for NT. It didn’t appear the staff was to worried about NTs to much with the JUCOs and what not...But I’ll say this much, another big body WR, speed pass rushing OLB/DE or someone like that would be a great grab.

You could tell our biggest focus at the end of recruiting there was LBs, Pass rushing DEs and Big Body WRs. If I had to guess, it will be in those positions if we take anyone...maybe a DB. Or we will save if for nexts years class.

Why the heck would a good pass rushing DE transfer? Unlikely that's going to happen. Oline with this same group has started off slow 2 years in a row. Don't think it would hurt to try to get someone on the Oline who can provide that unit a kick in the rear to start off the year.

They should try and sign a high school DT if possible. Come 2 yrs and the D Tackle depth chart gonna look like:

Sr: Rogers, Wildeman
JR: Newsom, Robinson
So: None yet
Fr: 2021 class

tell that to the coaches. Don’t cry to me. You can see it in their recruiting at the end there. And why in the heck would a good Olinemen transfer, or a decent to good NT? All can be said about the spots you said. Either way, you can tell the coaches where content with what they have at Oline when they only signed Corcoran and Conn. Adding Benhart at tackle and moving Farniok to guard will help a lot. I agree, Matt is to slow for tackle but Benhart isn’t. I think you completely ignored this part in my post above. Two, we are adding another Tackle that’s dam near a 5 star on Rivals and 24/7 In Corcoran (although I don’t see playing next season, he will need a RS year like most OL do).

A solid OLine.......truly the finest music to my ears (by a country mile).

Those guys are almost all going to play DE, and you are leaving out Hutmacher from high school. That kid will probably wind up being our NT in a couple of years.

And your forgetting M Black. Hutmacher will start off at NT but may not stay there. He very well could land at OG if NT isn’t going well.

We don't now for sure how they'll grow up in the weight room. Hutmacher is going to be a stud IMO at NT and soon. He could play this fall IMO IF we need him. We are in so much better shape at DT/DE than we've been for a long time IMO. It's a numbers game and Frost will figure it out. I do think there's a walk on who they like at NT as well. Feist while right now maybe a little light (6-2 pushing 290+) can play there. Walker can play there. Both of those guys are really stout. Ty Robinson has gotten to be a really big dude. He can definitely play there. Daniels is the man for right now though.

I think Ty Robinson maybe the man for years to come. But can he jump Daniels or will he have to wait his turn? And will he only played NT or will he play all over the Dline at NT and DE?

I have read multiple times that Chinander ideally wants his D linemen to be interchangeable and able to play any spot on the line. It allows you to move a maybe more talented guy around so that it's tough for the offense to scheme around them. It makes an O linemen have to think when suddenly before the snap the guy they were going to double team shifts and is lined up in a different spot. Yesterday I was watching the Bucs and wondered in a goal line situation what they would do to neutralize Suh. They doubled him and ran right off the butts of the double team behind I think a guard who pulled from the other side. Suh had no chance because they knew where he was lined up from film study and the Bucs have done nothing to put him in a spot to make plays.

that’s what I was thinking too. Ty Robinson will play all over the Dline. He won’t ONLY be a DE or NT. Dudes got to have best skills on the entire Dline. I’m excited to see him, Hutmacher, M Black and these young guys in the future....GBR

Hey dinglefritz......I would appreciate your response. It seems to me NU is going to be stronger everywhere next year "except" possibly our special teams. My God they were horrid.......do you know anything about that for next year?

Thank you sir!

i don’t think anyone has an answer on that one just yet. We did land a big legged kicker that can kick some monster distance FGs. But as for kick off coverage and return and same with punt coverage and return...I don’t think any of us know on that part ye. But agreed, that should be STEP ONE for our coaches.

Yes sir, that's by far my biggest and really only real-deal worry for next year. We'll just hope for the best!

So, great responses on the D-line plan, but I wanted to add this:

For NT, ideally you want a guy who is at most 6'3", and who is basically a human boulder. Damion Daniels is a perfect example of that. You just want a big body that commands a double-team simply due to his size alone. You don't want him to be too tall because he'll start losing leverage on the O-linemen he's taking on (unless his weight increases dramatically with his eight; I would never say don't have a 6'5" NT who weighs 330 pounds and is just built like a brick shit-house, that's fine).

When I've seen Robinson play and practice, what strikes me most is his speed and the size of his arms. They're like gigantic tree trunks. Suh had that, too. I would imagine you would want him anywhere on the D-line where he can use that ability to rip through the offensive line and create holes and disruption. Given what an NT does (commands and absorbs two blockers), that would not be the best way to use him. At least, not regularly. You might want him there to, as was mentioned, switch things up and freak out the opposing O-line for a bit, but it would not be, in my opinion, the best use of his talents.

I would think Hutmacher would be better there because he's built like a tank, all-around just BIG and able to keep two O-linemen busy.

Blaise Gunnerson will probably end up at DE, a very athletic DE , 6'6 290 with 30 + lbs gain.

I agree with you there. I was almost wondering if they would slim him down and make him a nasty pass-rushing LB, but if he's at 250 right now and could handle another 20-30 pounds of muscle, go ahead and make him a disruptive DE!

What we're all talking about her, fellas, is GOOD PLAYER DEVELOPMENT. That's something Nebraska used to be the best at, and currently super sucks at. The next few years are going to say a lot about what these coaches can do with real talent here, the likes of which we haven't seen tons of in decades.

Any chance someone like Brant Banks breaks out at OT and Jaimes can play LG? Or even guys like Fritsche and/or Piper take over on the left OT or guard? Not too impressed with our LT and guard play this year.

I agree with your observations, I just add I want some athleticism on the 2 DE positions that can generate pass rush and tackles for losses. The whole interchangeability thing is stupid IMO with the exception of occasional change up.

I think our special teams will be much better next year. Waldoch showed he could make FG’s late last year, Pickering is back and we brought in two JUCO kickers. Plus we will have a lot more athletes available for coverage units and our Special Teams coach will be around and healthy.

IMO. The biggest concerns next year will be DL and OLB. Right now OLB looks the same and DL probably worse.

My guess is that we see:
RT: Benhart
RG: Farniok
C: Jurgens
LG: Wilson/Hixon/Bando/Piper
LT: Jaimes

I think the competition for that LG spot will be fierce. In the end it will probably come down to experience (Wilson) vs talent (Piper).

I’d like to see the team look at more depth in the middle at NT, Another WR/RB and/or maybe another true OLB.

Oh, that's very, VERY good news. Thank you sir! They were a real-deal killer for us this year. That should help a LOT.

Oh, I see. The OLBs still look like a big problem? No T. Farley clones yet? Well, shoot. A weaker DLine scares me even more though.

Well, let's out-score everybody! The offense could be down-right vicious & with a decent special teams I like our chances. :)

I'm much more optimistic with Jimari Butler for OLB, he has the explosiveness and speed.
He does seem talented, but will probably take some time to develop. Also Gunnerson will play on the strong side where we basically have Nelson and no one else. Butler will play weak side where Tannor and JoJo play.

Yeah, kinda silly to say you can't find a decent pass rusher while assuming that good NTs and O-lineman are readily available.

Besides, we already got our OL transfer in Nouredin Nouili from Colorado State. Not a grad transfer, but he might still be immediately available and will have three years of eligibility regardless.

Maybe they got what they needed from the Jucos already and are going to target other positions for a grad transfer.

Yeah, still like the philosophy of TO and McBride turning safeties into LB, tall LB into DE, and DE into DT. Give me Tony Ortiz, Loran Kaiser, Randy Stella!
Just can't help but think Gunnerson would be much better at DE than edge OLB rusher. I could see Jimari on strong side edge and Green on the other OLB spot.
