DIACO puts media on blast.

I think I'll find Barfy's home address, bring up all the inane crap he's spewed over his career, and then write an article about how afraid he is to answer tough questions and how he sprinted to his car to avoid answering questions about his performance.

So tired of coaches acting like "the media" is out to get them by seeking interviews when they know perfectly well interviews are part of the job.

It's real simple, Bobby.

GET OUT IN FRONT OF THE STORY.

You give up 500 yds to Ark St. people are gonna have questions. You don't answer the questions, they still have an obligation to turn in a story if they wanna collect paychecks. (Hint: they do wanna collect paychecks)

So if you want control of what that story is, you get up to the mic and put the words in their mouth for them. Just like Riley did.

Get up there for 3 minutes, be all, "Proud of the way our guys rallied, they never quit on us. Proud of their stop at the end. There were some things we liked and there's plenty to improve on, we're looking forward to working hard in practice and we're gonna go out there and improve every day."
Good point but Riley can and should do that. I'm not a fan of trotting out every coach and player in front of reporters so they can fill their column space and hope for a good sound bite. Let the BEST guy we have to answer the questions answer the questions.

I think Diaco's manner was much of the real problem. He literally ran past the reporters who were asking questions and didn't say anything to them. He easily could have said what he says he believed. "Coach Riley is going to be addressing you all tonight. I'll catch up with you next week."

The press are there to do their job. Love them or hate them they are a big part of keeping a fan base who loves even the minutia of all things Husker satisfied. Don't turn this into an us against the world thing. He's already failed once in doing this...don't do it again.

Here is what the press was saying early in his tenure at UCONN.

"It’s too early to say he is failing. But I will say he is off to a bad start with the media...Diaco, in his first head coaching job, is trying to reach out to fans and market his product. Somehow, he forgot about the media.

In the long run, winning and losing will determine his popularity with the fans. But this is not a good team. It figures to be a very long year. Wouldn’t you think Diaco would want the media on his side?

The season will seem even longer if he continues this pattern of controlling. Whenever that happens, the media tends to become suspicious. Why so much secrecy? What is being hidden?

A little transparency would help. So would some trust. Then both sides could do their jobs and co-exist. Right now, the arrangement is not headed in that direction. And we’re still 10 days away from the opener. That’s not a good sign with so much season ahead of us."

Interesting. One thing about his presser that seemed a little "off" was that at the beginning of it, he reiterated - several times - that it was his understanding that he was not responsible for post-game media.

Now I understand why that was important to him coming into the position.

Viewing that presser as a whole, though, I would bet that the defensive players love him.

Lots of room for improvement on the field? Sure. I'm betting he gets his unit performing at a high level, though. No reason to think otherwise.

Hmmmm. Somewhere along the line I keep thinking that a pastor should be handing out forgiveness instead of reaching for years old judgements...... Diaco is not our head coach. As far as I can tell he's done nothing but be respectful to people in Lincoln so I'll leave him be until I have GOOD reason to criticize him for what he's done AT NEBRASKA.

So you are fine with throwing stones at journalists? How gracious of you.

On the journalists. They could have easily followed up on the why of the Bob D non-availability. Instead, they assumed he blew them off and wrote their stories accordingly. Barfy went so far as the refer to BD's actions as a "stunt".
Professionalism in actions is a two-way street.

I'm okay with criticizing the "journalists" that threw Diaco under the bus. He apparently was told he didn't have media responsibilities. Like the jackals some of them are they went for blood when they didn't get what they wanted.

Totally agree WV. Any journalist who supposedly works for a real newspaper and not the NATIONAL ENQUIRER should research the story, gather facts and then put out a respectable article. What research did Barfneck do before he wrote the trash he put out? ZERO! He is garbage.

Diaco sounds like another Bo-clone of the football world. He has no real success as a coach, was handed 800k to coach a game, data-wise he has done about as poorly at his job as can be measured, and then he is going to complain about important parts of his job, like communicating with the media. It is a farce to think a college football coach at Nebraska is going to accept nearly a million a year, and not expect to talk to the media. The greed of this game has created some real characters, or lack there of. Can't wait until we have a coach who is in it for the kids, for the program, and not just for their egos and future promotion. Another reason not to watch this team. I'm sure 90% of this board would 800k to coach defense, and then answer 10 questions a week about it. And apparently can continue to get fired and let go and still get hired again and again, and for more money. CF is a great sport.

I think you're onto something here... let's not look at the success he had as a D coordinator, which would compare favorably to what he is doing right now in Nebraska.

Instead, let's look at his failure as a head coach, where there is no real comparison to what he is doing in Lincoln right now.

Cool.

The media today always tries to make the story about them. Journalists act like they are celebrities now. I think Twitter is a big part of this. They get thousands of "followers" and "likes" and think they are more important than they are.
That's one reason I try and stay away from the news. It seems like reporters want to be the news instead of just reporting it.

The resident bee in the bonnet doing his invaluable work. You're like a cross between Schleprock and Eddie Haskell. Sociologists are still looking for a cure for your type of disease.
That wasn't a denial. Enjoy your new nails. :)

His success as a d-coordinator is circumstantial at best. And while I wouldn't blame him for have bad defensive players, or being overwhelmed by the needs of the team, or even being offered 800k. I would blame him for attempting to hide from criticism, because at his pay grade he should be transplanting a heart a day, defusing nukes, delivering babies, or building sustainable eco chambers in 3rd world countries. Instead, he is the head of one of the worst defenses in the nation, and he doesn't want to talk about it. Pathetic.

What's equally pathetic is you hiding behind a screen with this crap...

"His success as a d-coordinator is circumstantial at best." WTH? You say he has done about as poorly as can be done data-wise as a coach. As a D Coordinator he helped his team at ND to the National Championship game. I sure hope he does that poorly here as well.

Complaining about his pay grade is rich as well, considering there are dozens, if not a hundred more in college football coaching who make more, but I don't hear you complaining about anybody else...

And very classy to call his defense one of the worst in the nation AFTER 1 GAME! What's your beef with Diaco? What did he do to you that you feel so strongly about him? Didn't see you post anything about him before the season when he was doing well with the media and fans and everybody else... 1 game in and you pounce; you already know that he is one of the worst... Cool.

If you want to be pissed off that he didn't address the media after the game (because he was told it wasn't his role, I might add), that's your prerogative. Others are mad as well, and I can kind of see why. But this crap post tells a lot about your willingness to see if Diaco can turn this defense into something good.

Here's an idea... according to you, Diaco is "another reason not to watch this team." Do us a favor and quit following the team if you actually believe all the crap you have posted in your two posts in this thread.

Solana just needs to get on the Energy Bus with Diaco, Riley, and Shawn. Right now he is being an energy vampire...kind of like Barfy.

I think what's truly funny is that most folks in this state eat up Trump #fakenews media hate stuff by weekday, and then sit around and gripe on the weekends how much Bob Diaco owes the same liberal media.

FYI...the Energy Bus is dumb. It's the same nonsense as The Secret by Oprah, New Age mantras, and name it and claim theology espoused by some preachers.

I sincerely believe Diaco sees the press as energy vampires and thinks they will hurt his good vibes. It's why he doesn't want to be around them when its tough.

What did he do to you that you support him without complaint. Was Carl Pelini the best DC in the country in 2009? Hell no! It was circumstance that decided we had the top defense, not coach. That is what circumstantial means! Diaco may be great or it may be he had a very experienced and talented D, that played a schedule with suspect offenses. The fact he was fired from Connecticut, is more of a negative than him being a good d-coordinator for a few years is a positive. I know the positions are different but UCONN is not a high pressure job, and a coach is a coach regardless of position. If he can recruit, he can recruit at UCONN, if he can coach then he can coach at uconn...if he can't coach then his 800k and power 5 break records against Arkansas......st. The market is set because these coaches have to be great to earn that money, almost perfect, if they aren't then they need to be replaced. To be honest, the way things are looking at NU, they need to cut coach salaries by 90%, return that money to the fans by cutting ticket prices...to be honest I truly believe there are HS coaches in this state that would take 1/10 the salary and would do well enough to get us 5-8 wins a year. Throwing 800k at a newly fired coach is ridiculous.

Sounds like a guy who likes to take millions from fans, lose, and then blame them for being energy vampires. When is a college football coach going to come out and say, "I make more than a brain surgeon, and we can't even snap the ball without a penalty, I suck, we suck, we need to get better or I need to go.".

First we gotta do Frank. We still hear about Frank and of course more so Pelini, but rarely now Cally. Those two were the relationships we hoped worked out. Or carry the most disappointment.

And tell me what would be different if I was AD?...what have we won with the current AD, in any sport. I don't have a problem with sucking, I have a problem with spending and sucking. Our fans spend, spend, spend, spend, and what does it produce? I'm talking from a moral level. Either our lives or so pathetic that we spend on something knowing it will end in failure and turning the game off at halftime, or we spend on something in hopes it will be worth the money. Only a few times in the last 20 years has our investment been returned with competence. And obviously people care less about NU football, but our coaches, admins, AD, make more than ever. That is my problem. Urban Meyer is the perfect coach, he takes responsibility for his job, blames himself when ANYTHING goes wrong, takes accountability because he is make 100x what the average hardworking american makes. Diaco makes 20x what a productive member of society makes...he needs to produce right now! No excuses. We have enough data to tell us that is college football today coaches can and do win right away. They don't need to build a program anymore, they don't need their players, or their system in place. They need to prepare for their opponents. Urban Meyer took a 6 win team, and went 12-0 the next season. That should be our expectation when bringing in a coach for 2-4 million per year. And our expectation for DC and OC as well at 800k to 1m a year.

Amazing, really, that you don't recognize the talent difference between Ohio State and Mike Riley.

Here's a little tidbit for you... if Meyer took over for Nebraska in 2015, we wound the have gone 12-0. I'm not stupid enough to say we would still have gone 6-7 (we would have been better), but we didn't have the talent for 12-0 no matter who the coach was.

So your solution is to fire these coaches, especially Diaco (who has coached exactly ONE GAME for Nebraska).

Have I said how happy I am you aren't the AD?
