Is it though. I know the Hoosiers are a historic Blue blood. But Wv is no slouch and has had more recent success than Indiana. Indiana bball is very similar to NU football

West Virginia isn’t a better job than Nebraska football and he isn’t saying it is. There is no comparison between the 2 being made. Indiana basketball is similar to Nebraska football. Period. End of story.
West Virginia had about $3 million NIL for basketball and he was able to accomplish a decent turn around in 1 season. Indiana NIL will be significantly more, that is why it is a better job.
Basketball in Indiana is like a religion. I can't believe they've sucked for so long. I mean, I'm glad because I hate IU, but it's a blueblood. It's like Nebraska sucking in football.
There's some truth in this. Indiana basketball was a great job back when the Big 10 had ten teams and money hadn't flooded the market. Now it's a high pressure job that plays in a very tough 18 team league. Indiana basketball is like Kansas basketball- a successful season is winning the league or making the Final Four. The problem is it's a lot easier to do one of those things in the Big 12 than it is the Big 10.
My perception of what makes a coaching job great weights one factor much more heavily than the media and fans do-- how easy is it to win there? From a coaching perspective, that matters one hell of a lot. If a coach tells you otherwise, they probably aren't telling you the truth.
You make a good point, but I'm gonna say that there are other factors. For starters, how tough is it to win games in your league and how tough is it to win your league? It's easier to win at West Virginia in my opinion. I think the Big 12 is top heavy. Second point, NIL should be evaluated by comparing it to other teams in your league. My guess is that West Virginia has a NIL advantage in the Big 12 more than Indiana has in the Big 10. (I would love to see the numbers). Indiana has more NIL than West Virginia but that comparison doesn't matter in my opinion.
So Indiana is no longer a great job in my opinion, but it's certainly a very good job. But one thing that makes it more attractive right now to DeVries is that he will be taking over for a bad coach. It will be pretty easy to prove that you're a better coach than Woodson. And to DeVries being from Iowa, I'm sure he views the Indiana job more favorably. He's a Midwestern guy and getting a huge six year contract at 49 means that this could be his last coaching gig if he wants it to be.

Indiana basketball and Nebraska football have suffered for the same reasons. They have both hired a ton of shit coaches......
Wat? Working out pretty good for Nate Oates and Bruce Pearl. Rick Barnes has been very successful at Tennessee. Oregon and Dana Altman are in the tournament every year. Michigan won the B1G with a 1st year head coach. Florida won the SEC tournament and are a top seed in the dance.
The old “you can’t have a good basketball program at a football school” is a big fat lie. Not even remotely true and it’s just used to run cover for losers and losing programs.
It was a (apoarently bad) joke due to their one breakout year on the gridiron last season.

Big difference is the state of Indiana is a recruiting hotbed that produces a crap-ton of in-state talent, you can't say the same about the state of Nebraska and football. And it only takes a few players to turn a basketball program around.
True when looking in the rear view mirror. At the various times of hires, who was available and willing to come, might be different story. Realistically, it is easy to call them all bad coaches (my words, not yours) but that’s in retrospect which is always easier. Frost was going to be “the guy” and how did that turn out? Indiana did the same, “we got our guy” which could mean we got the best available or they really got who they wanted.
I think his point was logical. It’s the turnstile of coaching hires trying to recapture past glory. I don’t think beyond that there’s any transitive properties. It was actually my first thought when they canned their coach.
Winning your league in college basketball doesn't mean that much. West Virginia finished tied for 7th in the Big 12 and was left home, Oregon and Illinois finished tied for 7th and are a 5 and 6 seed. Nebraska lost out on players because their NIL wasn't competitive enough to get those players to enroll. Indiana will have 3 1/3 times the amount of NIL that West Virginia had, I doubt there are 6 schools in the big ten with bigger basketball NIL budgets than Indiana. Play a tough out of conference schedule, win 11 or more Big Ten games and you will be a 6 or 7 seed at worst. You stated Woodson was a bad coach, yet he was basically in the same position as Devries was as far as getting in the tournament. So if it is easy to prove you are a better coach than Woodson. That would somewhat prove Indiana is a better job, which was the discussion. Not if Indiana is an elite job, just that it was better than West Virginia.
supposedly bringing a lawsuit against the ncaa. also wonder if the coach's kid didn't "extend" his injury to have another year of eligibility for indiana? iu and devries were talking before the wvu season ended.
