I think this is a pretty good analysis. I like the grades you give. I think they are accurate, Not drinking any off season kool aid this year. I think we can get to six wins and to a bowl. I would find a six win season very frustrating but heck, I would take it given where we have been. But with a true Freshman QB I think we need to lower our expectations unless he turns out to be a real phenom. And he needs to stay healthy since Kaelin is not ready, Haarberg is a below average QB, and the transfer dude is totally unproven. The offensive line has underperformed for years now. Will this year be different? Probably a bit better. But by how much? Running back unit has some latent talent but I expect three games in for most of them to be lost for the season from injuries. Defense? Up and down unit last year who benefited from playing some really awful offenses. Defensive line and wide receiver are our most talented units. We have holes at linebacker and in the secondary.

But all of that pessimism aside, this could be a real breakout season if Raiola stays healthy and plays well, the offensive line gels, the running backs stay healthy, the new faces at linebacker and in the secondary pan out, and we just get some old fashioned luck for a change. We could go 10-2 or 5-7. Pivotal year in my view. Can't wait to see year two of the Rhule era.

1. If Jamal Banks doesn't have at least 8 catches a game, he's under utilized. Possibly Best pure WR we ever had!!
2. Carter Nelson will be a Big factor by mid season
3. Haarberg probably our second best WR target. Hope the coaches move him!

May be right on the freshman blues yet o believe he wins a couple we shouldn't because of him so I will say 9 wins then bowl game win for 10 total

Not too concerned about the defense so I’ll just share my thoughts on offense.

QB: I admit I’m drinking the Raiolaid on this one, he’s easily the best pure passer we’ve had since….. who knows?

RB: Unfortunately I see another RB by committee approach this year.

WR: Lots of good options, my concern though with that much depth is a case of just not getting the ball to the right players.

TE: Fidone has come a long way but still seems to be a hybrid TE/WR. Boerkircher I think is a solid option as his perimeter blocking is better than Fidone’s, but just isn’t as athletic.

OL: I’m hoping the addition of Macuzza and Jenkins as a full time starter springboards the OL into a decent year. I just don’t trust Teddy to stay healthy and Benhart I’ve seen enough of him frankly, hopefully Rhule tries a couple other guys at RT.

If 2 out of 3 of these prove true I'll hat tip you, but right now you sound like a crazy person except for #1.

Demetrius Bell is injured isn't he?
Keelan Smith is under the TEs on the rivals roster.

You list 12 starting defensive spots...

Yeah I think it was a knee for Bell but I didn’t think it was serious. I may be wrong on that.

I see Keelan Smith as a hybrid like Bonner and see him getting some specialized packages, but not a ton of PT yet.

I didn’t really know how to list the D starters. With our personnel I think it will be a lot of 4-3 over this year with Gifford all over the field and that last DL/Jack spot having a good rotation

Bell is out for the year.

I'd put Kaelin at #2 or #3 for QB. There's no redshirting this year for players who potentially could make a difference.

How does a transfer from Wake Forest with two 600 yard seasons get hyped up into being the best true WR we have ever had? LOL.

I like the Haarberg comment. If we're putting out best weapons on the field, they should use him as a big outside WR option just like last year.

Offensive Depth Chart

RB: 1) Emmett Johnson 2) Rahmir Johnson 3) Maurice Macuzza
I worry about the status of Gabe Ervin and to a lesser degree Rahmir. I see it being Emmitt with Dowdell as backup and several others sharing the #3 spot.

X: 1) Isaiah Neyor 2) Jacory Barney 3) Alex Bullock
They have to get Barney on the field and get the ball in his hands. Often.
Y: 1) Jamal Banks 2) M. Coleman 3) Keelan Smith
Slot: 1) Jaylen Lloyd 2) Isaiah Garcia-Casteneda 3) Demetrius Bell
Bonner is going to play. I think Lloyd leads the team in receiving yardage.
TE: 1) Thomas Fidone 2a) Nate Boerkircher 2b) Janiran Bonner [H-Back package]
Lindenmeyer will be playing a ton. He's #2 or #3. Carter Nelson should play more and more as the year goes along. Probably not as an inline TE.

Feel good about our Safty situation especially if young Benning can get a look there..
More concerned about the corner back room.

Feel we have good depth and athletic at all the LBer spots..

Kaelin should be right with Haarberg during the fall camp for backup QB..

There is only 1 jack position. Will be either Sherman or Princewell starting but both will play a ton. My guess is you will see Princewell a majority of the time against pass heavy teams and 3rd downs and you’ll see Sherman more against the run heavy teams and short yardage.

A LOT hinges on that 2nd CB spot. Can Ceyair Wright step in and be solid right away? Can young guys like Jackson, Buford, or Tarver be good enough so we can we hold serve in pass D until Blye Hill gets back from injury?

The good thing is outside of CU, our first 6 games don’t include any great passing offenses. So hopefully find a way to win those first 6 and then perhaps Blye gets back in time for IU etc. I think Indiana could have a pretty good passing attack with the transfers they brought in.
