Define Langsdorfing

This thread and the original poster needs to see the round file.
Why? Langsdork doesnt adjust nor does he go off script on first halfs, even when its not working. Against our schedule we should be scoring more than 10pts offensively in the first half, we arent and only have three times. If thats good enough for you then good, but if you expect us to compete in Columbus, Madison or even Iowa City with that output then unfortunately you will be sorely disappointed.

I know we left at least two touchdowns on the field on deep balls.. Langsdorf called a good enough game for us to score 40+ points. When the Oline is banged up and the defense is packing the box, we have to be able to throw the ball to keep opposing defenses honest. GBR

Why you say, because you got out over your skis showing that you don't know a whole hell of a lot. You are the "run the ball" guy, regardless of situation or context. The OL is in the worst shape its been in for years and they are unable to block runs or passes of any designs and you the armchair coordinator at home have all the answers....

I've come to accept and hate that there are Husker fans who spend games waiting with baited breath for the first chance to chastise the OC for any perceived slight. Mouth breathers like that blew up my phone repeatedly last week that NU wasn't trying to stem the tide by calling screens and draw plays, all this coming immediately following two consecutive series of attempting those very things with no success. Translation, this subset of low intelligence Husker fans are part of the "call plays that work" crowd.

You could not be more wrong on me. All of that screeching you wrote doesnt absolve the play calling in the first half. I have been more than fair and defensive of this team and Langsdorf this entire year and last, if you ever go to RSS. The fact is we have steadily declined in first half offensive production this year 17,14,14,10,10,10,10 offensive pts per half. That means the offense of the other teams get that many more chances, our defense is on the field that much more. Yeah the oline is beat up but we have more than three guys who can play the oline. Secondly its fine to struggle against the Purdues but eventually you will hit a wall when your fourth quarter heroics are held in check by a team with a pulse.

Call me gun shy or whatever, but I wont pump sunshine when I dont see it. I just am looking forward to the last five games of the regular season and am worried that this pattern will hurt us.

I'm not wrong. You define your unimaginative term as attacking a defense according to your preconceived notion of their weakness. These things don't happen in a vacuum. A team comes in and has had trouble stopping the run and you expect a team that has been struggling to run to suddenly start jamming it down their throats. The OL is in terrible shape at a critical time and the running backs are missing Ozigbo in a huge way. Beating Wisconsin and Ohio State were always going to be tall orders no matter what the health situations were. Not having the top two pass catchers makes moving the ball even tougher but not impossible. Langsdorf has been just fine when you look at the whole season of work up to this point. We are a run first team, and they have done a better job of managing a QB who vacillates between competent and Taylor Martinez armpunting and pocket awareness, oftentimes within the same drive or quarter.

I get the impression you aren't thrilled with Langsdorf. :) just a hunch. It sounds like you are complaining about the production but you keep referring to play calling. Is it the players or the play calls? That really is two different things. You can call the right play and not have it executed. I think Tommy missed two wide open passes that would have been easy TD's. Those would have been execution mistakes, not bad calls.

So here is the challenge. Tell me what the D was doing at the time of these particularly bad play calls? I don't mean they were in a 4-3 with rolled up corners and deep safeties in a cover two look. No, were the backers coming or not, were they in an over or under D, were they giving a zone or man-to-man look? We backers up tight or backing off? Where was the strong safety at the pre snap read? As soon as you tell me all of this then tell what play should have been run for every play of the game. It is so easy to sit back and second guess but the play caller has a very short period of time to make a decision, get the play in, get the QB to the line, make the line calls and get the play off. So I will wait as you chart the entire game and tell us where the play was the wrong call according to how the D was lined.
