take away the 2 giveaways and it's a different story.
off play calling is confounding at times, but for most part we probably ran plenty. 60/40, I think.
about 4 or 5 passes to open receivers not delivered on target. woulda got lee to >60%. and haven’t had many opportunities for open field after the catch.
pass pro is poor. pretty young, but no excuse.
i tried to be fair, without exaggeration.
it sucks, but a lot is correctable.

hoping they can get it all addressed.

Some of the people I was watching the game with were commenting how disinterested the Nebraska sideline looked during the entire game...even in key positive moments. :(

Any other team in the Big 10 wins this game by 3 TDs

That's just patently false. We should never lose to NIU but saying that Rutgers, Northwestern, Purdue, Illinois, Minnesota, Iowa, Indiana, mich state win by 3 td's is absurd. Some might, but you can't say for certain all those teams win by that much. Iowa didn't even beat north Texas by 3 td's

If Lee doesn't have a bad day, we win the game. The problem is, I don't feel confident that he won't do the same thing next game. Play calling was so-so. The bubble screen during the 1st drive was perplexing.

Thank you for that. Look how disinterested Riley was and always has been. He doesn't try to rally the troops at all.

The pick six? I assumed that was a read that Lee completely botched, but I could be wrong.

The team looked so larthargic and disinterested just during the tunnel walk that I sent a text to my brother after the tunnel walk and told him that if body language is any indication on how the game will go, it's not going to go well for Nebraska.

Bad read by Lee, but if SM Jr doesn't whiff on his block, it could have been a TD, but no one wants to talk about that...

Also, no one wants to bring up the fact that the kid who jumped the route is a all American candidate and is a projected third round draft pick. Heaven forbid NIU has a defensive back that was possibly the best player on the field and just made a play

How about this...if the offensive line doesn't have a horrid day Nebraska covers the spread. Lee would have time to survey the field and "hopefully" make the correct reads/decision which would lead to a Husker victory. Hard to fault a guy that is getting pummeled.

Even though the wide receivers/tight ends struggled catching the football and Langsdorf was Langsdorf...to me this loss is on the offensive line plain and simple.

If that play was a read by Lee, even more reason to bench him. Not a good decision maker. He'll make a few good throws here and there, but there could have easily been 4-5 picks yesterday. Hate to say it, but I don't think this was an aberration. The question is, who plays?

The TEs have missed some crucial catches the passed two games. Lee has been high, behind and has also underthrown some passes at crucial moments.

47 passes against an out-matched, under-sized G5 team. F that.

We had 36 carries for 85 yards. They werent overmatched and they were stuffing our running game. Why can't "run the ball" people see when the running game isn't working and has no chance to win the game? Our offensive line can't open holes against a defense that is playing up. They didn't respect our down field passing game , believing their corners were good enough to defend our wr's long enough to get pressure on Lee. They were right. This all comes back to the offensive line.

Lee had several plays where he waited and waited and then either got sacked or throw an errant pass. I'm not saying this line is doing its job either, but if you stand there long enough or don't move around, somebody on D is going to get to you.

Those are Nebraska kids failing us as well. Seeing Ketter and Reimers just wet the bed is the perfect microcosm for our woes.

Lee definitely made some questionable decisions at times...no doubt about it.

exactly right and most of Lee's struggles come back to a lack of confidence that he isn't going to get his head taken off every time he drops back.

I don't know if it is a bad read by Lee as it was a RPO. He is reading the defender on the slot receiver who was playing in on the run, it was the defender on SM jr. that made the play. No matter what, SM Jr. has to make some sort of contact with that guy. He should have recognized that the defender was cheating to the inside and have been ready to go balls out at him. I don't think SM Jr. even moved. Either he was confused on the play call or he had already predetermined that we were going to hand it off, so he did nothing.

Running game worked fairly well the first two games.

Many people fail to mention/realize that this particular "RPO" shouldn't have been called in the first place so deep in the redzone. Yes, Lee may have made a mistake with his read but why did Langsdorf call it in the first place when so many players are in a confided space. Lee had to make a long throw to the sideline and the defender was relatively close to the line of scrimmage due to his position on the actual field which made it easier to intercept. I am sure the defensive back was licking his chops after all week of film study to see Nebraska come out in that formation. Winking

I had a burger for dinner last night

Any other topics irrelevant to our running game against NIU you want to discuss?

36 carries. 85 yards. No Tre Bryant. Our wr's couldn't beat their defensive backs one on one. They played man to man and sat on our running game.

Running back carries weren't completely atrocious:

Wilbon - 24 for 90 3.8ypc
Ozigbo - 2 for 8 4 ypc
McNitt - 1 for 4 4 ypc

They need better designed running plays. That shotgun snap delayed handoff crap is not going to cut it (especially with Ozigbo). That is not power running and it allowed the speed of the NIU defense to react. That play got stuffed at the line of scrimmage way too much. Against the speed of the NIU defense you needed to run it at them and fast. Let momentum get you an extra yard or two after contact and let them dread having to tackle you after 3 quarters of being pounded on. That is how you beat a small speedy defense that is playing ultra aggressive.

Oh, poor baby. It really comes down to coaching and turnovers, get it?

I definitely agree it was a poor play call in that situation. Although a lot of blame can go around, I put this loss 100% on Langsdorf's shoulders.

Edit: I didn't say Lee made a mistake with his read, he read it perfectly. Poor play call, and poor execution by one of the wrs.

Agree that play call was ridiculous given the team's location on the field...100% on Langsdorf!!

Never said it doesn't come down to coaching. But in the middle of the game, you aren't going to correct a bad offensive line. We have a bad offensive line. They were living in our back field. Ozigbo was hit behind the line multiple times

If that were the case, we'd be complaining that his head is on a swivel, looking for the hit. That most definitely is not the case. Lee's problem is horrible pocket awareness. The lines problem in that game was the right side was a disaster.

Ozigbo doesn't have the skill set when an offensive line is getting trucked by the opponent. He is a good back with a competent offensive line.

You can correct things in the middle of a game, see Oregon last week.

Bottom line, turnovers and coaching got this team beat, period.

But their heart.... or something. Anyway, this is not on the kids. It starts at the top. The kids play like It's a job.

Well...they do want to get paid these days because of the NCAA and all of the money they make. Winking

The Gator fans watching the game with me couldn't believe Nebraska's OC made that call. Set the tone for the entire game. We score there the tone changes dramatically.

Can we please stop with the what if game? We have a large enough sample size to say we are a team/program that lacks fundamentals and is undisciplined. Riley is not all of a sudden going to wake up some day and change his spots. Nor is there any reason to believe what is correctable will be corrected.
