Dasan McCullough highlights

I think there's too much made about specific positions. He's a football player through and through. Just get him on the field!

I think he might be a bigger, more athletic Domann.

This kid seems to be impossible to block.. love his instincts.. hopefully that's film watch and secondary athletic skills..either way love how he seems to constantly in the oppositions backfield. Can't wait to see him out there for the good guys

You or I might be better than Gifford was this year. I'm so glad our safeties are turning over a bit because they were bad.
No. There were multiple times where I blamed Gifford for something only to have someone point out later that it was somebody else’s responsibility. He had one costly mental error for sure on that 4th down option play against OSU. He’s been a good player for us. IF the guys replacing him are better athletes, they could be very good.

He was an ok player for us last year. He was awful this year and no he didn't have just one costly error. That someone you were watching with doesn't know sports.

This guy is a linebacker though, not a safety. I don't see a point in playing a 6'5" 235 pound guy back at safety. A large free safety with below average speed or a fast, freakish outside linebacker? I get it that he may be called a safety and would (in theory) move around but if that's the case he better be closer to the line of scrimmage than Gifford was. Gifford seemed to take on more of a high safety, traffic cop role this season and he's less effective back there.

That was the one error that stuck out. It was Jay Moore’s commentary. Methinks he knows a little bit.

I always felt like he was punching above his weight. He made the most of what he had. His biggest asset is that he’s a smart player and a good leader.
I agree with the first part. It's hard to be a good leader and have people follow you when you are the problem though. To me, he was just not a DI player. Didn't have the size for LB, but doesn't have the speed for S.

Gifford was very good last year. He was very mediocre this year. The main common denominator there I guess would be the position coach. But to say he was not a DI player is bullshit. He has talent as he has already shown and will be making an NFL roster.

Rover in 335 IS essentially an extra outside linebacker

Gifford definitely will not make an NFL roster. Too slow for safety and not a LB. Guys like him are a dime a dozen to NFL execs.

McCullough played the cheetah position at OU in 23, which for OU lines up in a variety of ways. Got pretty banged up in the back half of the season. Began to play WIL In Spring and was part of a three way OR situation on OU’s depth chart to begin the season . Foot injury Limited him during the season, and he ended up having to move back to cheetah due to the injury of another player.
Looks like a great option at WIL as an even more athletic version of Javin Wright. Given he played OU’s version of the Rover, he could line up there as well. He is an athletic defender who has had trouble staying on the field due to injury. If he remains healthy he could be Nebraska’s best defensive player next year.

This...and the slower a guy is the closer he needs to be playing to the line not further back. Imo Giffs biggest problem was his lack of foot speed. Even when he sees plays sometimes he's not fast enough to get to the play.

Then when he is capable unlike last year he missed a lot of tackles this year.

I personally think Gifford is a tweener. Not fast enough to play safety or big enough to be a LB.

IF he has any aspirations of playing at the next level he should sell out on special teams .

Back at telling your tall tales I see. Gotta get a few more in before the new year so your count can start all over.
Relaying Jay Moore’s analysis on 590 Radio of various plays is “tall tales”? Mmm okay. Just offering my admission of mistakenly blaming Gifford for what I thought were his blown assignments at times. I’m not saying he didn’t make mistakes. They all do. He just didn’t make as many as some including myself.

When Gifford made a mistake, I think it was more physical like in the Wisconsin (?) game when he bumped a receiver instead of tackling him and the dude went on to gain 30 more yards. Kakdawg had it right. Gifford needed to be closer to the line of scrimmage- much like McCullough better be.

Making an NFL roster.... now that's laughable

Yeah I don't see him making an NFL roster. I have been surprised before though. Best chance is to embrace special teams and be core player and HOPE to be one of the last 3 guys on the roster. Possible but not probable imo.
