Monday through Wednesday were a bit meh, imho. (Plus work and all that stuff . . . ) Today is Group C Day, with the team many are still predicting to win it all, France, playing Peru, who lost a heartbreaker to Denmark in its first game. (And I'm OFF for the day!)
The Danes are favored against Australia--although it's 1-1 at the half. Assuming Denmark wins, Peru must win to have a chance of getting through. Peru is a fun team to watch. Current standings after round one in Group C (3 for a win, 1 for a draw):
France 3
Denmark 3
Peru 0
Australia 0
The third game, from Group D, Argentina v. Croatia, is also critical to the Argentinians and Messi. If they lose, their likelihood of getting out, becomes very closely linked with that of everyone's favorite, Iceland. Argentina and Iceland drew in game one, while Croatia played surprising well against Nigeria. Current standings after one in Group D:
Croatia 3
Argentina 1
Iceland 1
Nigeria 0
Schedule:
THURSDAY, JUNE 21 TIME LOCATION TV
Denmark vs. Australia 8 a.m. ET Samara FS1
France vs. Peru 11 a.m. ET Yekaterinburg Fox
Argentina vs. Croatia 2 p.m. ET Nizhny Novgorod Fox
