Creighton will be lucky to win another game this year

Serious question...do you think McDermott would be retained at Creighton if he had 4 losing seasons out of the next 5?
McDermott is likely going to have a losing record since the injury to Watson. Miles did not start out with and All-American early draft pick AND a winning tradition to build on like McDermott did. Miles finally has YOUNG talent in place and was winning games we probably shouldn't have based on our youth before Morrow's injury. Now we hit a rough patch and jackasses come on here saying we should fire him. It would be absolutely foolish to not give him another year at least.

I hope you're right in regards to the losing record for McDermott! You failed to mention that Doug certainly developed into an All American with some thanks to his dad. McDermott actually knows a thing or two about running an offense..something we don't see very often in Lincoln. BTW, Miles had a NCAA team in year 2 and with almost all of the roster returning we went 13-18...not his fault though I'm sure of it. And spare me the winning tradition...Miles also didn't have to go from a mid major roster into a high major roster in a hurry. McDermott has done a good job recruiting to his system with quick fixes in the transfer market. Throw in a local first round draft pick that Miles did not recruit and that helps as well. "Now" we hit a rough patch? No...it's been rough for awhile. With the same issues occurring over and over and over again...has nothing to do with coaching at all...according to the dolts. BTW, almost every Big Ten team has young talent in place and recruits well(you should see NW roster, the team that just spanked us)....but hey, according MiLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLes the "process" works. He has performed poorly enough to be fired....but as I stated before, I'm perfectly find with keeping him on board for another year to see if he can get it done with the sophomore class being a year older.

BTW, I'll answer the question for you.....no, McDermott would not be retained if he had four losing seasons out of the next five.

keep beating your drum. You've been doing it since almost the first day Miles arrived.

Creighton has sucked for 2 games, miles has sucked for 4 years. other than that, it's the same. keep on keeping on, dingle.

I see YOUNG guys on the team with talent we haven't had since Nee. I'm willing to be patient and see now that Miles finally has some talent in place to make us competitive. IMO, these kids are gonna be good within the next 2 years. I think VERY good when Watson, Jake etc are seniors. IF you guys get your way and run Miles out of town, we very well could lose several of them to transfer. Stupid to not see this through. IF he can't win with this talent in the next 2 years then pull the plug but anytime before them is just foolish.

I try to root for Creighton, but then something like this happens, leaving the Nebraska-Purdue football game: Talking with two other NU fans about the coming season, the loss of Andrew White, the youth of the team, some of the promising freshmen, etc.; a third person is asked his opinion: "I don't care. I'm a fan of the only program in the state that matters."

if they suck the rest of this year and next year, there's just no way you can justify bringing him back.

IF they suck next year then maybe I could see a change after next year. I just don't see that happening unless they lose a couple of guys. Even then, you don't make a change unless you have a proven winner waiting in the wings. IMO, changing head coaches is just as disruptive for a basketball program as it is football and I've seen enough to think that we're as close to putting consistently good teams on the floor as we've been for a very long time.

without tai, i just dont see it.
Tai cost us a game the other day. He's been much better this year, but he's struggled the last couple of games. We've got a good one waiting in the wings to take his spot and I predict Gill will play better when he gets back. Evan Taylor looked like a waste of a scholarship to start the year and that kid has been great lately.

All you have to do is watch a Nebraska-Creighton game and it is pretty easy to see that McDermott >> Miles. McDermott's team was supposed to fall apart once his son left for the NBA. After one down year, he has them back to their winning ways. Even their highest ranking ever this year. McDermott gets criticized for his Iowa St days, but that was a toxic situation he took over so I'm not sure it should be held against him too much.

we'd be like 5 and 15 without tai. think about it.

Not going to dispute that but he's still replaceable. That was the point. He had a terrible game the other night and had two unforced turnovers on our last two possessions in that game we lost with a second left on the clock. He's come a long ways in the last 4 years under Miles but he still makes those head scratching turnovers at inopportune times.

And what happens if they lose the rest of their games this year? Does he still get another year because of his "young talent"? I just have to wonder what Miles was doing all the previous years he was here. What makes him such a good recruiter now versus the prior years he was recruiting "his" players and not getting it done? Change for the sake of change isn't always a good thing but sometimes change to improve can be a good thing. The remaining games will be interesting.

i will be quite surprised if we have a player next year who has near the year that tai is having.

Hopefully we have SEVEN guys that have great years instead of ONE guy trying to carry the load. Ideally you don't want one guy taking 30 to 35 shots unless he's Steph Curry.

Webster is averaging just under 14 shots per game, which doesn't strike me as excessive when you consider the volume of minutes being logged by guys who shoot around 35% from the field and cannot handle the ball.

I thought I heard the squeaky little clown on 590 say that he took 33 shots against Northwestern. Edit/Add: Just looked it up. He took 23 shots so I stand corrected. We've got other guys that can shoot and NEED get open and shoot. I'm not bagging on Tai. For the most part this year he's been what we hoped we were getting when he signed with NU. It took a while for him to get there. That said you can NOT stand at the top of the key with the ball til 6 seconds on the shot clock and then dribble in to a zone and throw the ball away. You can NOT do virtually the same thing the next time down the court only bounce it off your foot. Take a damned 30 footer. At least you have a chance then for a game clincher OR a long rebound so you can kill the clock.

I agree that Webster completely peed down his leg in the Rutgers game. But somehow that's turning into a narrative about how he's no good at crunch time and can't handle the ball. That's pretty unfair, when other then the Rutgers debacle he's played at an all-conference level this season.

And I only got to watch part of the Northwestern game, but the rest of the team went 14 for 40 from the field. Maybe the guy on the radio thinks the outcome would have been different if Tai spreads the ball around more, but I don't see how.

The "guy on the radio" that said we needed other guys to help carry the load was Matt Davison. I agree that Tai has largely played very well this year. It just angers me to have people calling for Miles' head when his senior point guard made 2 bone headed plays that cost us a game. It just illustrates how thin the margin of error is when perhaps how your whole season (and maybe your job) is judged hinges on a couple of plays during the season.

I'm a big fan of Creighton but even I admit I keep waiting for them to fade away, and outside of a down season or two, it just isn't happening. I've been as wrong as the haters on that subject and I really cannot think of a reason that will change. Creighton suffers from the same disadvantages Nebraska does, and you'd think that eventually the law of averages will catch up to them but they keep defying those laws, so enjoy it. Royally effing blows what happened this year, "He coulda been a contender"...
