Creighton will be lucky to win another game this year

Been a Husker fan my whole life. Been a Jay fan my whole life. Always been proud of both. Both schools have always been underdogs in basketball. I guess all the Creighton haters just can't stand a team from Nebraska actually producing a solid basketball product. Does it help you feel better about Husker basketball if CU sucks too?

Does it make you feel like all the failures that occur in Lincoln in basketball are caused by location and nothing more? Like there can never be great basketball in the state of Nebraska because that's the way it is? Creighton contradicts that and that's what you really hate isn't it? What you really hate is that Nebraska could be great at basketball but they keep hiring the biggest dorks of all time to coach. I'm sorry that Miles is awful. I'm sorry Husker basketball is 9-10 and likely to lose to NW tomorrow night . I hope they don't.I'm sorry little brother traditionally beats up big brother. I'm sorry you have that complex.

Does this all go back to Nebraskans being split between people from Omaha vs the rest of the state? Cause this anger towards a good clean catholic school makes zero sense.

Certainly a very bad loss and I dont think they have recovered mentally as a team the loss of Watson. They may not.

While I will not question losing Watson has hurt Creighton an argument could be made they lose these last two games even with him. The Marquette game they lost to a team that shot over 60% from the field and his replacement (Mintz) went for 17 and 8 with the team scoring 94. It would be hard to argue that Watson in the lineup prevents the buzz saw that was Marquette that night from scoring 102 as he was by no means a defensive stalwart. Tonight's game the Jays went 1-18 from behind the arc which is well off the pace for the season. In my opinion a factor that is being overlooked is the annual late January early February slump that the team has faced since Mac came to Omaha. I would guess this trend is due to the high tempo that Mac's teams play and what I would assume to be a grueling practice regimen to try to prepare for this pace resulting in a bit of overtraining and the hitting of a wall. While I do not think the team has the same trajectory they were on with Mo; hopefully they can put the wheels back on the bus and get it rolling again.

Wow thats a lot of typing.

I dont want Creighton to do well as their success hurts Nebraska. Makes it so recruits might go to Creighton instead of Nebraska. Its that simple for me. If school X's success makes it less likely for Nebraska to have success, I dont root for them.

I'll weigh in...as a kid, living in York, I grew up listening to Creighton on my little yellow transistor radio(Jack Payne, if I recall)....and I liked them. HOWEVER, my optometrist was Dr. B.N. Greenberg, and he was at one point president of the Nebraska Board of Regents(I THINK that was his position)...in any case, on at least six occasions, he gave this little snapper his hoop tickets and I witnessed Fred Hare, Tom Baack, Stu Lantz, Bob Grattopp, Leroy Chalk and countless more(his seats were right behind the Bobfather, btw)...so I WAS HOOKED!!!!

Fast forward to present day...my Creighton thoughts have changed a bit, not based on the Huskers but on my adopted hometown Shockers. NOOOOOO love lost there, but the Shockers would love to have that rivalry back AND be in a similar good league.

I think everyone hopes Watson heals quickly and wish him all the health a young man should have. However, there is misfortune of opposing teams and then there is Crayton.
Well said. I think most animosity towards Creighton has nothing to do with the basketball team itself. It's the perception that the Creighton fan base is comprised of elitist, sweater vest wearing, dbags.

48 pages of why they hate "UNL." But, by all means...continue to wonder why many Husker fans don't accept Creighton with open arms.

Oh please stop. They are a completely different team without Watson and everybody knows it. Also, there is a reason why Marquette and for the most part Gtown was scoring at will. Bad defense. They will win more games...they should spank DePaul in Omaha this Saturday. But, they went from looking at a probable #2 seed to maybe a #7-#8 seed if this trend continues?

I agree they are a different team but does Watson and as I mentioned I think their trajectory has changed with his loss. My point of the arguement of possibly losing either of the last two games with a heathy Watson is more based on factors he would not have had a direct influence on. Marquette shot over 60% from the field which is something I don't believe he changes. Also Mintz going for 17 and 8 in 26 minutes provided a similar statistical impact of Watson who was going for 12.8 and 8.5 in around 30 minutes per game with the team managing 94 points compared to the average of near 88 points per game. I will agree that it could be said if mintz goes for 17 and 8 that Watson goes for 25 and 10 so this situation is incredibly hypothetical.
In last night's game the team played their worst two halves of basketball of the season. The team was lethargic, disinterested, and selfish which are three things that Watson's charisma and energy normally don't allow to happen. The most critical issue last night though was the ice cold shooting performance the whole team put on including a near 8 minute scoreless streak in the middle of the first half. As mentioned, the team shot 1-18 from behind the arc with many of those being open looks that this team is expected to make with a 43% 3 point shooting average. They also shot a season low 35% from the field. While Watson can score his points as a facilitator I still don't know if he would have been enough to counteract such poor shooting. Just my 2 cents.

Not a perception

Losing a key player is tough, as the Huskers have also found out. They are 0-3 and counting with Ed Morrow out. Not sure when Morrow is due back, but I really don't see NU winning without him until Feb. 14 when Penn State comes to Lincoln.

It mostly is, especially the younger folks who are mostly dbags, but that is fine by me. Though I will say, the only thing I have against Creighton is coach McDermott - who I think sucks as a coach - and graduate tuition.

Do Nebraskaball fans hate UNO fans? I mean, they're rooting for the wrong Nebraska state school!

I'm not a Creighton fan AT ALL, but how can you say that McDermott sucks as a coach? He had them at their highest ranking in school history.

PLEASE don't tell me you think we consider Tim an elite coach.....
if that is to me, no I dont think that. Just find it funny that he said McDermott sucks as a coach, yet Miles has never beat him.

Yes, I follow both teams. I am not die hard either way. I am not heart broken when either team lose. I

CU fans are like young kids these days. They'll wear a team's colors as long as they're winning. Tell you how awesome the team is, but they couldn't tell you 3 names of players on the roster that they are "supporting".

Look, I wasn't thrilled at all when he came over from Iowa St given his track record there, nor was I particularly thrilled when Bruce gave him that contract. Add in that without his son in the beginning years Creighton would most likely be only "meh". Now you have one player go down and you get this?

Call it me being too hard on the guy, and I give him props for recruiting and the transition into the big east, but is he really all that good? If Dana Altman wanted to come back in 2018, would you take him again over McDermott?

It's amusing to me how often Dana Altman's name comes up in these discussions about NU and Creighton basketball. He took Oregon to the Elite Eight last year and is set to get paid nearly $3 million per year through 2023. My guess is he can visit the relatives down in Wilber any time he wants, without coming back to Nebraska to coach.

Of course most people would take him over Miles or McDermott, but he's not likely to pick up the phone.

My wife grew up in Denver and her family had Broncos season tickets, so even though we live in Phoenix she understandably still loves the Broncos. But for some odd reason she also loves our local team, Bidwill's Birds. I guess that makes her a Brochinal. Of course I love her in spite of this obvious character flaw. Same deal re the Jayskers minus the love. Hopefully their birds will lose every game.

As a Nebrasketball fan, I'd also acknowledge that we are somewhat jealous of Creighton's ridiculous run of good fortune, as Dirk alluded to in one of his recent stories. Dana leaving >> Mac coming >> Dougie coming >> Big East invite. Whereas Nebrasketball seems to suffer at least one unforeseen debilitating setback each year. I agree that nobody wants to see college athletes injured, but I'd be remiss to say Nebrasketball fans aren't taking some pleasure in the Jays current state of affairs.

Big difference. You are accepting of your wife's character flaw as you picked her by choice. Unless you are a religion with a forced marriage. NU and CU fans are together by forced marriage due to being from same area. Again, unless CU fans want to leave Nebraska entirely... Winking

The reasons for CU's last 2 losses were different. Marquette was hot - and it carried over to the next game with Villanova (#1 team) which they beat. Jays could not score against Georgetown - which is much more reflection of missing Watson to get them into good shots. They will settle down into the new rotation - but the big change is not being able to push the ball every time up the floor (Watson could do it without alot of turnovers) - they have to get better looks out of half court offense. Will take some time to sort out.

It's very apparent that the dream season is over, I hate Creighton but they were sure fun to watch on the Offensive end this year. It begs he question, why can't UNL find a few guys that can move the ball if Creighton does it so easily year in and year out?

Miles doesn't like offense. Defense only baby!

It just shows you what the loss of ONE guy can do to your team. Creighton went from a top ten team to a team soon to be unranked. One could argue that with NU's youth and lack of inside presence that the loss of Morrow was just as significant to NU as the loss of Watson to CU. Fire McDermott.
