I am and always have been a Nebraska fan exclusively. Having said that the Red/Blue stuff I read last night bothered me. There was even one Nebraska 'fan' who suggested that we didn't need Creighton fans backing the Huskers. That kind of statement does not represent me and I would guess does not represent most Husker fans.
Like I said, I am Husker through and through . I even had a grandpa who played fullback for Creighton back around 1905. We always had a good natured rivalry. He loved Creighton and Notre Dame and I loved Nebraska. He died before coverage of both teams had a chance to grow like it did with the advent of cable . I would love for him to have had a chance to watch how things developed over the last few years. He loved watching or listening to sporting events more than anyone I have ever known. When he was living in assisted living at the age of 98 he was still following every game he possibly could.
Anyway, my point is that Being a Creighton basketball fan and Husker fan seems fine to me. After all the division of the Bo years it would seem to be a good time to be united. Scott Frost coming back is a wonderful opportunity for that unification to take place. We are stronger together than apart.
As a Nebraska fan I will always want to beat Creighton. That said, I took no great satisfaction out of their loss last night. That one had to sting. Besides , I can't stand K-State. I know that basketball will always be a rivalry between us but it would be much better if we could keep it civil. I want those Creighton fans standing side by side with me cheering against our common football foes. Nebraska has enough detractors without creating more of them instate. Together we can all have the best of both worlds. What is wrong with that ?
