Crazy defense stat

Coming around. Keep improving and maybe this season will be the turning point

The competition may not be great, but at least they are handling the opponents like they should be!

To me, the offense doesn't seem like they can put a lot of points on the board when needed and that will be the team's downfall.

With that said, we will learn a lot about our DC against Wiscy, OSU, and PSU.

Great 14 quarter stretch! Good job defense and coach Diaco. Earning back the D is his name :)

Game plan from Illinois was to shorten the game. They succeeded. We only had what? 6 drives all game before the final drive where we took a knee? That's unreal. Sure, the defense probably shouldn't have gave up so many first downs the first half but still, a very short game

First game since 2012 without giving up a TD??? Did I read that right?
Just looking quickly over the seasons, without checking if the TD was given up by the defense, it's the first since the 2012 game against Michigan, they scored 9 on 3 field goals. South Alabama scored 9 a few years ago, but it was a field goal and a TD with a missed XP.

Defense looked good. The offense looked pretty good the 1st half. In the 2nd half, the offense was back to their old self 50% of the time. I will take the win, but next week does not look like it will be a good thing. I do think out of the big three, Wisconsin will be the closest game.

Damnit. Why'd we have to lose to NIU? This season looks a lot different if we just take care of business there. ****.

Why? So SE would get fired...

I still hang that loss on the two pick-6's and nothing else.

It might look a lot different, but it wouldn't change the results of the rest of the season.

I would much rather be sitting at 4-1 than 3-2, and I like to think that the loss lit a fire of adrenaline within the coaches and players for the want to win, but this team still has a lot to prove.

Sure would be nice to win at least one of the "big" games coming up... or at least play a close game all four quarters if we are going to lose.

As you pointed out, the competition hasn't been good and there is fool's gold from this Illinois game on both sides of the ball IMO. The defense is certainly more capable of competing with the better teams but I'm very concerned with our CBs and the cushion they give. Good teams will pick that apart. The OL will not hold up against Wiscy, OSU or PSU and we will see Lee pressured into mistakes again. I hope I'm wrong but trying to view the team as it actually is instead of some fantasy run at a B1G West title.

I’d hope to God our coaches expect the same thing and have game plans for Lee to have no time. Teams have to adjust to this all the time and pull it off. Lee won’t be able to do 5-7 step drops against Badgers, PSU, OSU or even Iowa. I fully expect us to game plan for that In a big way. So relax, we should be fine.

The last 14 quarters, the defense has only given up 2 touchdowns. Incredible. Nice work Diaco, and keep it up blackshirts!!
Yes, the defense has looked improved but we need to keep in mind the offenses we have been playing. iirc, they said Rutgers & Illinois offenses we're ranked about 109 & 110, or something like that. We'll have a better idea where we stand after the next few games against quality opponents.

Competition has sucked, but lately, Nebraska has made even the worst look like heisman candidates. So I'll take it.

We've been hurting. Kalu, Jones and Tre loss was tough to this team. Good thing Morgan is back and getting physical. Just needs to hold on to balls thrown right into him.

One of the announcers during the Husker game said Riley runs a west coast offense where the QB needs to get rid of the ball right away.

Is this true? Is Riley's pro-style offense a west coast offense?

If it is a west coast style, then Lee definitely does way too many deep drops and takes way too much time to pass it.

I too really hope they have a plan for Lee to get the ball out quickly on most pass plays so he is not hurried into throwing more INTs. That is a huge worry still for this offense.

I love your last two sentences... made me laugh out loud! RollingLaugh

WCO receivers read the defense and run routes based off of a tree. A.K.A. qb throws the ball to a wide open DB when done incorrectly. Williams teaches precision route running. Call a play, receiver runs the route as called. Riley's is a pro style timing and location dependent system.

Either system can use quick, high-probability passes, but that is where the similarity ends.
