Countdown to 105

Shortly I'm going to post the entire roster that will need to be trimmed to 105 by fall. I've eliminated all graduating seniors as well as Malachai since he's entering the portal. I'll include the incoming true freshmen in bold type who have signed for next year.

It's going to be alphabetical and their listed position but not going to mess with what class they are due to redshirting, etc.

When someone enters the transfer portal I will denote it by moving their name to the right of the active list and indicate what day they entered.

When NU signs someone from the portal I will place an "x" in front of their name.

I will add an xx after a player's name if it's a player we would like to retain and not lose to the portal.

This list will become very fluid when the portal opens Wednesday, Dec. 4 through Jan. 1, 2025.

Thanks for the suggestion. What I might try to do initially for something this large is to keep this original roster but devise a way to actually remove a player from the actual roster. Something like this: Say Alvano enters the portal:

Current looks like this:
ALVANO PK
Change it to:
PORTAL.....ALVANO PK

It continues to retain the original roster but removes him from the active roster through the portal.

Possible I missed some. JMO but don't know about Teddy, Corc, and Ervin and exactly what they bring to the table considering their injury history and with Bullock how much he can contribute.

Any of the posters that feel other players are definitely worth keeping, don't be afraid to let me know and I'll put an xx by their name as well.

Taking a quick 2 minute stab, I feel like you can really whittle the list down. Too busy to really analyze, but would be interesting to see how everyone's first cut shakes out as far as numbers go.

Because the list is so large I kinda went with the meat and potatoes approach, LOL.
No doubt there are some young guys on this list that I'm unfamiliar with that may be getting some things done in practice that the coaches really like, so we retain them.

As far as those like Corc, Teddy, Ervin and maybe even that TE Markway from LSU who showed up and we find he has a torn ACL? or something.

In the OL, kids like Lutovsky, Gottula, and Evans are not world beaters, but they've been durable and that counts for something. Can we do better? Sure, but they, along with Brix, Pyles, etc the other young kids is not a bad starting point.

Almost as important as anything is finding a really good long snapper and a punter a lot better than Koch. Hohl has been coming on as a place kicker and we all know how crappy our ST's were this year. I'd still like to see the coaches try out some of our big kids and see if there's a promising long snapper in the bunch. Won't do us any good if we pick up a quality, young long snapper and he gets injured.

Having a great, consistent long snapper this year was maybe the difference in being 10-2 or 9-3 versus 6-6.

What I been saying. I'm sure they're great kids, why are we wasting time repping this number of guys? 105 is a godsend for this program.

There comes a time when the kids just have to be realistic in their chances. With the 20 graduating seniors there were at least 152 kids, cause I'd have to deduct the 20 incoming freshmen from the 2024 list.

We have 7-8 TE's and how many other than Boerk, Lind, Fidone and Nelson are gonna play when it matters?

College baseball has a limit of 34 or less than 4 deep total (obviously heavy pitching). Basketball has a 15 man limit or only 3 deep. At 152 we're talking about 7 deep.

We have enough kids walking around who say they were "former Huskers" and were 5th string DT who never saw a meaningful snap in their entire career. Seems like 105 is plenty.

A lot of these kids can go to a smaller school if they choose, maybe get a lot of playing time, have fun, get a good education and then get on with their lives.

The smaller NCAA's and NAIA's have to be loving this. They are going to be getting some high quality players that should have been there all along. The days' of leaning on walkon's are over. For every diamond in the rough there are 50 players who are extra weight and should be somewhere else. It is what it is.
