Welcome to the first look and picks for the opening week games of the 2017 college football season. These quick thoughts are being done in early June, with the real Fearless Prediction and expanded breakdown coming in August.

Early June First Thought: What's Going to Happen
Maybe this time around the game could be a bit more interesting.
The two teams have played twice -- in 2009 and 2012 -- with Nebraska winning by a combined score of 80-22. For both, though, this is a key game to kick things off and set expectations right away.
Arkansas State had a horrible start to last season before winning eight of its last nine games, losing the one date against a Power Five team to Auburn 51-14.
With Miami (FL) up next, no one's expecting the Red Wolves to get a win until dealing with Arkansas-Pine Bluff, but a few good performances would show the team's potential in a bit of a rebuilding year.
Nebraska isn't going to receive any love to do too much in the Big Ten, but that can change with a few massive wins.
If the Huskers win with ease, and go on to beat Oregon in Eugene, all of a sudden, they might be seen as a real, live player in the West chase. Struggle, and even with the likelihood of a good record early on, the early projections might be right on.
The problem will be the Arkansas State lines -- they need to be rebuilt. There are a few nice players and prospects, but as the game goes on, the Huskers will dominate up front.
The Red Wolves will put up a decent fight, but Nebraska will open it up late.
