I understand why they do, but, sometimes, protecting players that simply make some really bad plays (happens in sports) is cringeworthy.
My personal leader for a Rhule-ism that is wearing thin is how he answers tough questions (aka why TF were you throwing on third and goal with Purdy?) with "we were trying to win the game." No shit Coach?I understand why they do, but, sometimes, protecting players that simply make some really bad plays (happens in sports) is cringeworthy.y
Well, they' deal with those players in a different way. Rather than resorting to public blame/embarrassment they'll handle it privately out of the public spotlight. They'll coach them some more IF they think it's correctible or one-time. IF they think it's a fundamental issue, they'll encourage them to leave via the portal. And IMO, that's the best approach for the culture they want to instill. Now in contrast, Coach Prime has a totally different approach called: throw them under the bus.I understand why they do, but, sometimes, protecting players that simply make some really bad plays (happens in sports) is cringeworthy.
Coach Osborne used to always say, "we just have to execute better". It is a weird time in college sports. Kids get the commitment/personal hype videos...NIL dough...but have to have the egos (the adults have built up, in many cases) protected. Just a strange dynamic these days, IMO.Well, they' deal with those players in a different way. They brought in Sims and they need to accept the responsibility for that. Unfortunately Scott was freaking worthless as a head coach and his staff sucked balls and they didn’t recruit for shit. These are the players we are stuck with for the rest of the year. Let’s see if we can bring in much better offensive players. All positions. As they should, they had three different QBs in there yesterday and the result was the same.

Just like Sims had a prior history of turnovers Satterfield has a history of inept offenses.Don’t understand why so many people on this board will except the saying:
“Not the offensive staffs fault, they have a lot of inexperienced players on offense.”
But a lot of those same people won’t except the saying:
“Not the offensive players fault, they have a lot of inexperienced coaches”.
You know both are true and why we have such a shitstorm going on offense
No that was the first playWe need to be able to pass the ball to win. Coaches can do so much but D1 qbs should make these throws. Didn't rhule say in the presser the goaline int was supposed to be a run?
Let’s be honest, South Carolina last year was pretty good on O at the end of the year, once Rattler figured it out.Just like Sims had a prior history of turnovers Satterfield has a history of inept offenses.
Both are true, but a competent QB would make all of it look a hell of a lot better.Don’t understand why so many people on this board will except the saying:
“Not the offensive staffs fault, they have a lot of inexperienced players on offense.”

Exactly, our QB's don't even look capable of making HS level reads in the passing game right now. I've never seen an offense at Nebraska look as inept as this year, and that's 100% on the coaching staff for not finding a real QB to put on the roster. We need to be able to pass the ball to win. Coaches can do so much but D1 qbs should make these throws. Didn't rhule say in the presser the goaline int was supposed to be a run?
Running all 3 plays, burning clock and kicking the fg probably would have won the game. So no, we didn't need to pass the ball there to win. Also, we don't have the tools for a passing game. Most passes should be set up by prior running plays. Rhule is the one who blew smoke up our asses about complimentary football this season and he was full of shit.We need to be able to pass the ball to win. Coaches can do so much but D1 qbs should make these throws. Didn't rhule say in the presser the goaline int was supposed to be a run?
Satterfield's inept offenses have a history of turnovers as well. Combining Sims, Satterfield and Nebraska's recent history of dipshittery turnovers was probably a terrible idea in hindsight.Just like Sims had a prior history of turnovers Satterfield has a history of inept offenses.
No. The first down play was supposed to be a plain handoff but the call got screwed up.We need to be able to pass the ball to win. Coaches can do so much but D1 qbs should make these throws. Didn't rhule say in the presser the goaline int was supposed to be a run?
Because when he gives us straight answers, you have posters crying a week later, "Rhule lied to us."My personal leader for a Rhule-ism that is wearing thin is how he answers tough questions (aka why TF were you throwing on third and goal with Purdy?) with "we were trying to win the game." No shit Coach?
It is curious that DC White has made an immediate positive impact on defense while OC Satts side of the ball has been a huge ClusterFu_ _ all year.Don’t understand why so many people on this board will except the saying:

Pretty sure another poster went through what was available at the time and how those transfers are all working out.Exactly, our QB's don't even look capable of making HS level reads in the passing game right now. Sure ego is involved, but I simply call it treating players with dignity. What's to be gained by publicly humiliating someone. In fact it hurts future recruiting. And don't forget these are still kids for the most part not seasoned old adults.Coach Osborne used to always say, "we just have to execute better". It is a weird time in college sports. Kids get the commitment/personal hype videos...NIL dough...but have to have the egos (the adults have built up, in many cases) protected. Just a strange dynamic these days, IMO.
I get what you're saying. It just seems weird to me that sometimes the most obvious player mistakes, being taken on by a coach is awkward. I thought TO's approach was non-specific and factual - and didn't involve a bus.Sure ego is involved, but I simply call it treating players with dignity. What's to be gained by publicly humiliating someone. In fact it hurts future recruiting. And don't forget these are still kids for the most part not seasoned old adults.
I know what poster you're talking about and he has a history of embellishing things, and his criteria for a 10% success rate was lacking in the reasoning department. If you compared these transfer players to what we have at the qb position now on our roster as a measure of success, you'd have closer to an 80% success rate.Pretty sure another poster went through what was available at the time and how those transfers are all working out.
Only a 10% success rate on transfer QBs being any good. That shows it's not nearly as easy as you're making it out to be.
The DC doesn’t have to rely on QBs. He also doesn’t have to worry about his players giving the ball away.It is curious that DC White has made an immediate positive impact on defense while OC Satts side of the ball has been a huge ClusterFu_ _ all year.
Because it’s easier to to get a good read on what the defense is doing sitting up there looking down on the field. To add to this: Does anyone have any info on why Satterfield has decided to call plays from the booth the last two games?
As I recall (and my memory is fading) Osborne used to say stuff like "we just have to execute better". BUT....he often dropped a little aside that let you know what he was thinking, without throwing anyone under the bus directly. FIFYOn fourth and short, inside the thirty all day long and next week, every NFL, FBS, FCS, D1, D2, D3, high school, middle school, and pee wee coach worth his salt would take a field goal, go with Alvano!
I felt on our last series with first and goal at the 5 we didn't play to win. Playing to win for this team is three straight power runs. We played to lose by throwing. All year long we throw picks in the end zone when we are close.Running all 3 plays, burning clock and kicking the fg probably would have won the game. For all the talk about our OL there was at least a dozen plays were they moved Maryland’s line five yards off the line of scrimmage.I felt on our last series with first and goal at the 5 we didn't play to win. Key word is Rattler and scheduleLet’s be honest, South Carolina last year was pretty good on O at the end of the year, once Rattler figured it out.
Bingo. As I recall (and my memory is fading) Osborne used to say stuff like "we just have to execute better". BUT....he often dropped a little aside that let you know what he was thinking, without throwing anyone under the bus directly. Such as:
We could have been in better defenses sometimes (McBride)
We need to be more accurate passing (QB)
We could have held blocks longer (O-line)
We let a few receivers get by us (DBs)
Sometimes we didn't have the right play called (himself)
If you didn't listen to him all the time and/or didn't listen closely his PCs sounded like standard coachspeak. But he actually said quite a lot.
they needed to find 3. Injuries happenExactly, our QB's don't even look capable of making HS level reads in the passing game right now. I've never seen an offense at Nebraska look as inept as this year, and that's 100% on the coaching staff for not finding a real QB to put on the roster.
Very strange indeed! My feelings. You can't have it both ways! You can't be put up on a pedestal and paid more money than the average fan makes. Then play just down right bad and not have any consequences. It's not right!Coach Osborne used to always say, "we just have to execute better". It is a weird time in college sports. Kids get the commitment/personal hype videos...NIL dough...but have to have the egos (the adults have built up, in many cases) protected. Just a strange dynamic these days, IMO.
