The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. -Albert Einstein.
This oft used quote perfectly depicts the state of Nebraska Football since the firing of Frank Solich. Sure, we had some different offenses (WCO, Classic Spread, Whatever the crap Mike Riley was running, and Frost's Chip Kelly Oregon). Now we're running an offense that's literally undefinable. It's kind of a combination of spread and something that kind of looks like a running game. The bottom line is that this is essentially the same thing that we have done for 20 years, trying to run an offense that requires a top flight dual threat QB, something that we have failed to recruit for those 20 years.
Forget about the turnovers for a minute. Our offense is soft, tentative, and awkward. It's not strength on the OL. The DL seems to control the LOS and they lift in the same weight room as the OL. There is no aggressiveness in our offense, everyone is tentative. This is why our OL gets their asses kicked in the run game. I'll be honest, Sims had plenty of time to throw today, but we got NO push on the OL, none. This is where doing the same thing over and over again comes in. I was hopeful that the game day calling of the game would be improved under the new coaches, and while this looks to be the case on defense, the offense game day coaching is no better than under Frost, perhaps worse.
Now to Sims, Stevie Wonder could see that he just can't get it done. Aside from being a turnover machine, he can't read progressions and his judgement during plays (whether to throw or run) is indecisive at best. Take away the turnovers, and we may have given up about 10 points less, but we still would have a suck offense that can't sustain a drive and can't keep our decent defense off the field enough to allow them to finish the job. I had hoped that this great athlete could be coached up, but that's obviously not the case, problem is that we have NO other options. HH is not a legit D1 QB either, and Purdy can't even perform in practice.
Corcoran, Sims, Purdy, Benhart, and IGC, should leave after this year with the Seniors (Grant, Washington, Kemp, Fleeks, and Nouili). Gottula and Teddy need to be our starting OTs next season with a transfer at guard for Nouili. Teddy needs to replace Corcoran whenever he's healthy. We will have another transfer starting at QB next season, and we'll need to go with all of these current freshman next year at WR with maybe a transfer. There needs to be a pretty good flip on Offense.
But more than that, we can't keep running this stupid "modern" offense that doesn't work. We have to do something else that ATTACKS and doesn't CATCH. What we're doing now is BS.
