When it was first reported that sophomore Isaiah Roby would submit his name for an evaluation from the NBA Underclassmen Advisory Committee, it was widely assumed that he would be going through the same pre-draft process and decisions as teammates James Palmer Jr. and Isaac Copeland.

As it turns out, Roby’s NBA path this offseason barely even got off the ground.

Like Palmer and Copeland, Roby took the first step by submitting his name to the NBA Draft Advisory Committee.

Unlike his Husker teammates, though, that’s as far as the 6-foot-8, 226-pound native of Dixon, Ill., went.

The next step in the process is to declare for the NBA draft without signing with an agent, also known as “testing the waters.” Palmer and Copeland both did that; Roby did not.

While I’m told Roby did gain “valuable feedback” from the evaluation to use during his summer workouts, he never filled out the paperwork to test the NBA waters and will not participate in any pre-draft workouts with NBA teams.

So, barring some other unexpected and unanticipated events, Roby will be back with the Huskers for his junior season in 2018-19.

I’ll have more details plus some info on Palmer and Copeland in this week’s Tunnel Talk...
