I just got back from a family vacation, and we drove past Chimney Rock on our way home. I hadn't been there since 2005 and my kids had never seen it so we stopped. I remember being able to walk all the way to the base of the Rock. Now there is a trail that only gets to within 200 yards or so.
Am I misremembering our did they change it up. Does anybody know why they stopped allowing access to near the monolith or when it changed?
I'm mostly just curious. Also, it was hot as balls out there.
