Callahan recruiting

I'm not sure Gabbert or Robinson would have stayed regardless. Steinkuhler was coming no matter what. Would have loved to see Jonas Gray in red

The story is that Gabbert called Watson after he was kept as the OC and wanted to get back together with Nebraska and Bo blew him off. The story with Robinson was that his dad was running the recruiting process and never was sold on staying in state, once Callahan was struggling badly the Robinson's were back on the market

Everyone on here thinks Callahan was some great recruiter. Hauled in all these 4 and 5 star kids and is the only reason the old staff ever won. Someone did something similar for 2011-2013 so I thought I would do it for Callahan from 2005-2007:

2005
Harrison Beck- 4* bust
Zack Bowman- 5* played a lot but in the system not overly effective, of course, no one was
Chris Brooks- 4* bust
Jordan Congdon- 3* bust
Nick Covey- 3* bust
Barry Cryer- 3* bust
Ola Dagunduro- 4* starter
Phil Dillard-4* starter
Wallace Franklin- 3* bust
Cody Glenn-3* sparingly played position he was recruited for. Finally moved to LB where he flourished
Frantz Hardy- 4* played a lot but no better than a walk on
David Harvey- 2* bust
Jacob Hickman- 3* bust
Brodrick Hunter- 3* bust
Leon Jackson- 4* bust
Marlon Lucky- 5* started and played a ton
Dontrell Moore- 3* bust
Steve Octavian- 4* played a lot of LB
Brock Pasteur- 2* bust
Jordan Picou-2* bust
Rodney Picou- 4* bust
Zach Potter- 4* starter
Robert Rands- 2*-bust
Craig Roark- 3* bust
Matt Slauson- no rating. starter and still playing
Jeff Souder- no rating, never played
Tyrell Spain- 3* bust
Suh- 4*- nothing needs to be said
Zac Taylor- 3* a guy we could use right now
Barry Turner- 3* played enough to not call him a bust
Bryan Wilson- 2* bust

That's 19 of 32 recruits that never did anything. 2006 to follow

Typically you need need to have a 50% hit rate on recruits and 13 of 32 is no where near that but we got 2 conference POYs and one of them was a Heisman finalist so we had that going for us. Basically this year was a "proof of concept" it showed that Nebraska was able to bring in top talent and recruit with the big boys

I have no doubt that Nebraska can bring in the big boys. This was more to prove that the depth that Callahan left wasn't that great. Starters, sure. A couple were pretty damn good but not as great as people remember

Cally will probably get fired at Dallas this year. I would not mind taking him back as offensive coordinator or at least offensive line coach

Callahan isn't with Dallas. He's with the Redskins.
