Call that ended Iowa was only slightly correct

I just tuned into BTN to see the score of this first game today Iowa and Illinois right as they were reviewing it. Luckily with Hulu I was able to go back to the start of the play and watch it. They called slide interference at 2nd base because the Iowa player slid past the base and popped up not demonstrating that he could have held the base at the end of the slide. Illinois had zero chance of turning that DP but that is the rule. If the runner would have tried to stay in contact with the base they would not have called it but he chose to popup behind the base like he did.
