BTN ramifications ??? Disney/ESPN purchases Fox

Fox Sports BTN, FS1, etc. are all separate from Disney and ESPN. No monopoly at least in that category. The rest is up for debate.

So Fox's old partner retains the sports networks.

Doesn't look like Disney gets the normal sports and news stuff at all.

Disney/ESPN gets Fox's regional sports network (Fox Sports Net) this includes the YES network which carries the Yankees

Is the company that has the BTN more or less financially stable after this move?

Interesting. So what is left of Fox gets a pile of cash, 25% stake in Disney, and Fox, Fox News, FS1, FS2 and BTN. I like that BTN is not part of the deal - but not sure what is left will have a great revenue model (if you look at how ESPN is losing their arse and cutting staff). Put some risk on Nebraska's investment in BTN.

Fox News, Fox Business Network, and Fox sports not involved. Just the film FX channel.

Contrare. I think the$$ generating part of Fox is still intact

Disney/ABC/ESPN does gain control of the Fox Regional Sports Networks. Any time ESPN gains more of a choke- hold on college sports, it is bad news for fans. They seem determined to write the sports news, instead of just covering it.

Disney also adds the X-Men movie franchise, Avatar, and the original Star Wars to their existing lineup of Disney characters, Marvel Comics, and Star Wars. Fox held the distribution deal to the X-Men movies and 1977's Star Wars, despite previous purchases by Disney.

With all of these mega-mergers there are going to be about ten companies left in America. We're going to be like Korea, where a few companies control everything. I need to decide now if I want to work for Disney/Ford/Pfizer or TimeWarner/General Electric/Exxon.

If they adopted the no firing attitude Japanese Keiretsu uses with all their interlocked businesses.....could be a good thing (don't hold your breath).
