Tell me about this kid from Nebraska's stand point. Iowa offered this Lincoln, NE defensive tackle today. Doesn't look like Nebraska has offered. Is this a case of the Nebraska coaches going after "bigger fish" and know he would commit later on in the process if Nebraska misses some top guys?

Is he not good enough in the eyes of some of you guys that have seen him play?

If I remember right, he didn't grow up in Nebraska so he might be an easier out of state pull than your normal Nebraska high school kid.

We signed 4 d lineman last year so our coaches have already said they're going to be very selective this year. Nice player, but not sure he's the elite DT NU is looking for this cycle this early in the cycle.

True. You don't need as many DT's when running a 3-4. Iowa is going to need 3-4 DT's but this offer worries me that the coaches don't like their chances with the big dogs like Trevor Trout. His video looked good and he was first team all state in Class A.

Nebraska has an in state commit from a D lineman from York by the name of Masry Mapiu. From what I've heard, Williams is more of a finished product, but the York kid has a lot of upside as he hasn't played football for very long. Also, Nebraska is in on a couple other "bigger fish" like Trevor Trout and another big boy from Texas, whose name escapes me right now, but was the teammate of a 2017 Husker signee.

It's scary for NU to pass on this kid. Bigger fish as others said. Different priorities like CB for this year's class

Small 2018 class. Have to be selective.
This. We are going to have a very small class this year. So we aren't going to be giving early offers to kids who are "projects". Maybe down the road but not now. So I would not read too much into the fact that NU has not offered this kid. Maybe in a year when we have 22-25 scholies to offer, we would offer him. My guess is that Iowa's coaches see something in this guy. I am not a huge fan of Ferentz, but the dude usually fields a damn tough defense. So I doubt Iowa is offering this kid right now out of desperation. This is, rather, recruiting all the decent players in that 500 mile radius thing. Or so it seems to me

My son played for Lincoln East last year and they played Southeast twice so I went back and watched the Hudl film from those games of all the plays Williams was on defense only. Most of the time East doubled him with 2 lineman. Occasionally against the double he would get some penetration but mostly got handled. A good part of the time he was 1 on 1 against East's best guard and I'd say he won most of those match ups. Often getting good push into the backfield. However, Easts guard is widely noted as being a guy who takes a lot of plays off. Some of the time he ended up going against Chris Walker. In my estimation, Walker dominated him and Williams didn't win a single one of those match ups- at least to my untrained eye. He would occasionally slip off Walker's block late and get in on a tackle 5-10 yards downfield. I think he's a good player but at least in those 2 games I didn't see enough to get an offer when we are in on other big time guys.

Bryson Williams will play a 3-4 DE in Nebraska's scheme. And I do expect Nebraska to offer him.

I believe there have been one or two recent CB's for Carson to NU. That may be our guy.

He is good enough. NU is taking a small class this year. Lots of four star prospects interested in NU have already been turned away. Another factor in all of this is the new DC favors longer armed, taller defensive ends for his 3-4. That's why 6'5" Tate Wildeman was offered. Bryson should be a better fit at nose tackle or defensive tackle in a 4-3 anyway. NU wasn't looking for any more nose tackles since they signed two last year and already have one other prior commit for this year's small class.

It's a good year to come in and grab Nebraska HS talent because there just aren't enough scholarships to offer this year. We'll have to let a few good ones like Bryson Williams get away. The hope is that he signs in the Big 12 and we don't have to play against him.

He is up to 293 lbs. And he looked pretty darn quick in the Rivals tape you probably also looked at.

You'll get him and then proceed to kick our ass with him! But we'll have a flock of wide receivers that look pretty!
