Perfect spot for him.
I'll blame the late coaching transition until proven otherwise. In 2023, Gifford and Singleton were quite capable players. Their coach leaves just before fall camp and then they end up struggling. There are plenty of really good safeties who are slower than Gifford. Athleticism was never his problem.Good for him. Obviously he wasn't gonna play much. I hope like hell all these positions are opened up in the spring. After watching our safety play last year with the "veterans" it truly made me wonder are we playing the best players or are we playing the older players. Repeatedly I watched Singleton, Gifford, and Buford make mistakes on the back end. Repeatedly they got beat on the back in due to lack of speed and ability in Gifford's and Buford's case and eye discipline in Singleton's case.
After watching guys like Gunner replace Teddy/Turner. Watching Wright replace Hill. Watching Emmett take over for Dowdell. Watching Shavers take over for Gbayor . I just wonder how often are we really giving guys the opportunity to beat out these veterans. Seriously it's not like they were world beaters to begin with.
I hope they go into the spring with NO starters. Especially on defense. I've seen enough from guys like Hartzog and Buford to know who they are. Those are JAGs who will always put you in position to lose against the better teams we face. Physically they aren't what we need to take a step forward. I hope those guys get beat out tbh.
I wanna see the WRs who are capable of making plays PLAY. I now have confidence that it happens on the offensive side of the ball. At least at WR and RB due to Dana. Defensively I'm not sure yet. I hope Butler is different than White was that way. Let the best guys play.

He was probably going to play for Dan Jackson regardless. Either at New Mexico or now SDSU.

Agree to disagree I guess. Think it had more to do with hesitation.I seen several plays where his athleticism and speed were reasons he missed plays. The coaching change could or could not be a reason why they struggled. It's possible for sure but disagree in his speed not being a reason he struggled. We definitely can agree to disagree on that one. Same could be said for Buford to a lesser extent. Singelton issues seemed more mental to me .

Great post and spot on. Nobody can argue those points. What we're talking about here is the bell curve. How many high NFL draft picks have we been producing? How many 10 or 11 win seasons have we had? We have veteran guys who are in the middle of the bell curve (they are a dime a dozen) playing ahead of guys who may prove to be better players if given the chance.Good for him. How’s his dick taste? You love players who play bad football, I’ll give you thatAgree to disagree I guess. Think it had more to do with hesitation.
Will be interesting to see how Gifford tests during draft prepI seen several plays where his athleticism and speed were reasons he missed plays. He sure seemed quite a bit slower than the opposing offensive players he was seen chasing afterWill be interesting to see how Gifford tests during draft prep
