To those that predicted personal big stats and scores against NW this result should be humbling. We are not a football team that can convincingly beat anyone on our schedule. I never could make such bold predictions.
With football Deities challenging Nebraska every game and taking our players off the field the % to make bowl eligibilty decrease. We don’t have the depth on offense for sure to continue to lose 1-2 starters a game. That attrition already changed the trajectory for Nebraska already in my opinion. Yes, every team has to find a way to win, but it’s more difficult for first year coaches.
I like that Rhule has started to beat back the losing bug so we can find ways to win instead of ways to lose.
Iowa, MSU, and MD are beatable teams only if injuries stop or decrease, which we cannot control them. Circumstance and bad luck had limited production in all facets of the game and the butterfly affect will continue.
Turnovers and penalties is the other area Nebraska can somewhat control. I say somewhat because referees can impact a game. Haarbergs low release will increase tipped passes and the RBs fumbling showed up again and we saw that against NW. Heads up plays by defenders are part of the game for causing turnovers and I did expect a better positive turnover for us this year. Iowa’s MO for winning has been to make fewer mistakes, yet we make more than most of the B1G.
So I think injuries will be the main cause for Nebraska to not get to six wins in the regular season followed by turnovers and penalties third.
A bowl game is within reach but each game has made the hill steeper especially with injuries. The attitude of the players and the will to fight no matter the score will challenge this football team. The challenge is stacking and stacking and stacking.
