BOR approves Lear jet donation for recruiting

I have been wondering who on this board has contributed to Nebraska's NIL? I haven't, but maybe it's time to send some in? Anyone donated so far?
The rumor is Nebraska doesn't have a functional NIL collective because of who is running it. We need a crowdsourced transparent NIL collective for the regular fans to get involved. Events can be set up and players can make an appearance and sign autographs. Make it known this is happening. To my knowledge nothing illegal about this at all. It just takes someone with some initiative.

I see the old guard has weighed in which perfectly represents our boosters approach to NIL

It is an honor and privilege to play for DONU. You shouldn’t need NIL. Come to NU for free and develop.

Explains why we are the saddest program in all of power 5 sports right now
Go be an Iowa fan.

Even if it was just a perky upgrade I like it. But it's not. It has multiple benefits. Flying coaches around and visiting multiple recruits in a day is a good thing. Makes everything more efficient.

Maybe a G5 school tries to hire White and he thinks it will suck to go back to flying commercial. Perks all around as far as I'm concerned.

Those were some of the reasons that I made the donation.

I’m happy about the jet. Very good donation.

But the poster, troll or not, is right in saying we need to be filling player pockets with cash any way possible. Hopefully our athletic department is dping its job in finding shady ways to get big ten money into the pockets of players instead of just perky upgrades for the ad, coaches, and donors.
Need them both. Didn't Carter nelson go to ND on someone's jet? Why couldn't it be used in that capacity as well. I don't know how the donation is structured

Never wanted to **** inflation so hard.

The jet is good. Now use it to transport shady fat envelopes of cash and promises.

Carters trip was not a jet owned by ND but by a booster. It was an “unofficial”.

Like i said in another thread, allow those who pledge a certain amount to hand a bag of cash to the players themselves. Would be a hoot, an incentive to donate, and transparent.

Both Iowa and Iowa st have been using private jets for years and as have most other P5 schools. The fact that this donation is news shows how far behind we are

I’m actually hearing we have a lot more NIL funds than we all think. That the ones controlling it have been super cheap ever since they over paid for Mathis. Also hearing those managers feeling some heat cause they haven’t been spending, which is the intent of our donation

Facilities, stadium upgrades, AD salary bumps, Lear jets for recruiting have never had less value when it comes to winning as they currently do in the NIL era.
Nebraska is years behind other schools in this realization

The coaches really wanted Garrett Nelson to come back last yr (2nd team all big ten) they tried to work with our NIL to make it happen but it was a dismal failure. The math indicated Nelson was better off being an undrafted free agent than come back
The Nebraska NIL 1890 initiative , is total crap. I am so sick of reading that Nebraska is in the upper class of the NIL schools. If I hear Rhule say it, I swear I’ll say he’s on the take! We should have the money to get a good quarterback, receiver and a lineman. If recruiting goes as well as it looks we don’t need a dozen portal players just a couple two or three. Simms and Hutmacher are the only ones I’ve heard getting anything from the NIL, When this NIL crap came out every reporter in the state bragged about what good shape we were in. We lost two good linemen in the portal last year because we couldn’t put out the money. Throw 400 million in the stadium renovation, then find away to put 100 million into the NIL, you’d get a lot more bang for your buck! Not one person in the 80’s or 90’s complained about the seating because we got “improved fan experience” on the field of play.

I've given him/her a lot of sh1t, but they make some really good points sometimes. Especially the way this season ended... Things to consider as fans to hold the athletic department accountable to win games the program should be winning.
Well, they do have enough income, it remains to be seen if coaching and development will happen, once transfers/recruits come here.

Correct. Will this jet be owned by NU or booster donating the use of

Don’t think I would want to fly in a 1 million dollar Lear (junker) They normally cost millions. Maybe he donated a million dollars worth of air time?
Could be. Not sure if it was just the agenda item or the reporter condensing it down but that was all it said.

Not to get too technical. But a “1 million dollar Lear Jet” is probably an old piece of shite. I hope it’s worth more than that.

…oops just saw the post above.

It's kinda surprising to me that they didn't own a jet before this given all the money they spend on recruiting. Although I know they relied on benefactors donating time on their corporate jets so they weren't suffering in any way.

Why would the school NOT have their own jet? Is it just the cost of having pilots? That has to be it, right?

Why own one? They’re too expensive to have them sitting on a tarmac somewhere. There’s no doubt boosters with jets that don’t get used as much as they should. A couple of years ago they were using my brother-in-law’s Kingair

I haven't seen the financial analysis. It would depend of course on how many flights per year, the cost of owning vs. lease and the availability of private jet service from boosters. I don't have the data to do that analysis so I don't know how it would shake out, I'm just surprised that now they're getting their own jet and didn't have ownership of one before.

I think they’re getting the use of one and not ownership. Norfolk Metal used to let them use theirs.

Pilots. Maintenance costs etc. Time value of money tied up in a private jet. I don’t think owning one makes much sense for NU but who knows.

Terribly inefficient financially to have a jet sitting around getting used in spurts. I believe NU was using donated Netjets hours at one time.
