Baseball America recently released its list of the top pro prospects in all 17 summer leagues around the country and Nebraska junior outfield Ryan Boldt was tabbed as the No. 2 prospect from the Cape Cod League. Heading into his senior year at Red Wing High School in 2013 Boldt was project as a top-three round draft pick, but a knee injury wiped away most of his senior season. A member of the Bourne Braves, Boldt hit .273 (41-for-165) in 41 games. In the wood-bat league Boldt had nine doubles, one triple and 17 walks to 30 strikeouts, while he also stealing nine bases.
Boldt is coming off a sophomore campaign where he shined both on the field and in the classroom. The Red Wing, Minn., native led the Huskers in average (.344), hits (75), runs (45) and stolen bases (9). NU’s leadoff hitter for most of the season, Boldt displayed a great eye at the plate with 27 walks to 27 strikeouts, while also leading the team with a .429 on-base percentage. During league play, Boldt ranked ninth in the Big Ten with a .374 average and tied for eighth in hits with 34, while his on-base percentage of .467 ranked fourth.
