Nebraska can still win the Big Ten regular season by sweeping Michigan and Indiana loses at least once to Rutgers.

Technically we’d be in 5th having lost the head to head to both Illinois and Minnesota.

We are also guaranteed a spot in the Big Ten Tourney which is nice.

    Final regular season conference series

    Michigan @ Nebraska
    Rutgers @ Indiana
    Illinois @ Michigan St
    Minnesota @ Northwestern
    Iowa @ Maryland
    Ohio St @ Purdue

If I was a betting man...
Indiana wins the 2019 B1G regular season.
Guess that means the Wolverines are going down Winking

If we sweep Michigan, the worst we can finish is a three-way tie for second place and the #4 seed. We would be ahead of Michigan by half a game.

I predict we will win two against Michigan, Indiana will sweep Rutgers, Illinois will win two at Michigan State, Minnesota will lose two at Northwestern and Iowa will lose two at Maryland. That would mean finishing tied with Illinois for third place and earning the #4 seed and a first-round matchup with Minnesota.

Is it odd that I’d prefer that because then we’d play the late game.

It would likely be a record crowd for a 9pm game. That one usually has 50-200 fans at it.

No. Assuming it actually starts at 9:00 instead of 10:45. :)

The best slot would be the 5:00 game. Which, naturally, is why the #1 seed gets it.

Can we still fall to 8th?

If my math is right we could fall to 7th at the lowest.

Semi-random tiebreaker scenarios which assume all remaining scheduled games are played and also exclude Northwestern who would have to sweep Minnesota to have a chance to be part of the conversation:

    1. We lose two-team tiebreakers vs. Minnesota, Iowa and Illinois.
    2. We lose a two-team tiebreaker vs. Indiana if we don’t sweep Michigan. If we do, the tie is broken by RPI.
    3. We win a three-team tiebreaker with Indiana and Minnesota if we sweep Michigan. If we don’t, a tie with Indiana is broken by RPI
    4. We can’t win any other three-team tiebreaker.
    5. We can’t win a four-team tiebreaker with Indiana, Minnesota and Iowa.
    6. A four-team tie with either Indiana, Minnesota and Illinois or Minnesota, Iowa and Illinois would be broken by RPI.
    7. A five-team tie would be broken by RPI.

It’s right. Six of the 13 league teams cannot reach our 13 wins. We can only fall to 7th if we are swept by Michigan and Northwestern sweeps Minnesota.
