How are these teams aren't going to add value to the conference? The Big 10 and SEC should not be concerned about their own survival. So why add teams? The next TV deals aren't expected to be any larger than they already are. So why add teams so that everyone can get a smaller piece of the pie?

I don’t know the answer to this, but if you eliminate the PAC 12, doesn’t that make your brand even more powerful? And therefore more lucrative?

Just a thought, and I could easily be wrong.

Eventually it isn't the incremental value of an individual team so much. As the number of choice schools consolidate into 2 big conferences, it becomes more like a monopoly with them being the only big options for lucrative TV viewing, You start giving the B1G and SEC what they want/demand because they control the eyeballs and there just aren't any equivalent options remaining. ACC, Big 12 and PAC become the leftovers.

I don’t get adding Stanford and Cal.. 2 more teams is enough of this conference expanding crap..

Just means less money anyway you look at it, since that’s the main reason why we joined this conference and the stability..

Makes even less sense for Cal and Stanford because they don't really have a backup option. I'm sure the Big 12 would take Stanford but I'm not sure they would even want Cal.

Better give them some super low payout at first since these Pac 12 teams have zero leverage.

Stanford makes sense if you're trying to make a more attractive conference for Notre Dame to be part of since they play them so often. Big ten already has USC which is another of Notre Dame's oft played teams on the west coast. After that I think the big ten should look at a Texas school they really like and a Florida school they like. Then they've got the 3 big recruiting states watching big ten sports.

Plus I think both those schools and Oregon on the a trimester system. The first 2-3 games of the year, students are not even on campus yet. Not that it matters, they would not go to the games at Cal and Stanford anyway.

Maybe it is just easy pickings at this point but FSU and Clemson bring way more to the table.

Sadly though, ND is in the drivers seat. They make so much right now as it is and they control (and manipulate their schedule) each year.

Would prefer UNC and UVA before Cal and Oregon (I have a disliking for them, others would say Stanford)

By the way, not sure there is an addition outside of ND that can pay for itself and not lower per team share in the B1G

FSU and Clemson are 2 schools you make a pitch to and negotiate (although I think UNC might be a better option than Clemson). I think you take Oregon and Washington when the time is right but on the Big 10 terms. Stanford and Cal I would just pass on. Unless ND says they would come with Stanford and Stanford says they aren't leaving Cal.

I don't like the idea of catering to ND. Stacking schools they play may or may not even get ND to join. Not worth the risk.

Agree...100%

ND is definitely in the drivers seat.
You could probably even argue that they are getting stronger as more of this expansion goes on.

Shit, There is a chance, that if expansion gets "big enough" that ND will end up playing 9-10 home games a year and maybe 2 neutral site games. They will be banking.

I can see it now...

Big 10 West

Minnesota
Iowa
Nebraska
Northwestern
USC
UCLA
Cal
Oregon
Stanford
Washington

Big 10 East

Wisconsin
Illinois
Purdue
Indiana
Michigan
Michigan State
Penn State
Ohio State
Maryland
Rutgers

What Texas school would one go with if given the choice? What remnants of the Big 12 in Texas is attractive?

Which TX school is worth taking. Tx Tech, Baylor, TCU? I don't think any school in the big 12, acc or pac 12 would pass on a big 10 invite. No way TX or A&M would leave the sec.
