Is this scenario better for the program long-term?
Les Miles hired as HC
2018: 7-5
2019: 8-4
2020: 10-2 (B1G West Champs)
2021: 9-3
2022: Retires and we bring in the FROST
During this time SF goes to Florida
2018: 9-3
2019: 10-2 (SEC East Champ)
2020: Playoff appearance (SEC Champ)
2021: Playoff appearance (SEC Champ)
2022: Comes home with tons of hype
I'm not a huge fan of Les, but if we hire a young guy like Matt Campbell and he is marginally successful, he'll be here forever and we'll be on the outside looking in as SF has an outstanding career. I'm not sure on OC or DC, but Les will be willing to keep some of the assistant staff on - KW, DW, JP. I could see him keeping DCBD or maybe bring in Aranda who will be looking for an out. Maybe Cam Cameron for OC. Recruiting would stay the same or improve. He'd coach his son and would retire shortly after.
I also worry SF will stall-out early (think 9-4 Bo) and not meet expectations, making for an un-winnable situation for him and his staff. Plus, putting my Nebraska fandom aside, I'm genuinely excited for the opportunity he might have a Florida.
