Trying to be optimistic but this does not look like a very quality roster shaping up. Looks like a Summit League roster.

Do you really think they wouldn’t have played him if he wasn’t better than our other guards in practice? Maybe he should have played instead of Worster but I find it really hard to believe that Fred wouldn’t have played him if he could compete in practice.

After Fred found out that Cale was a better all around player than Janowski this was bound to play out. Cale can handle and distribute the basketball better than Nick. He also plays defense, rebounds, can knock down a three and has a very good basketball IQ. He got his chance and earned his minutes.

Looks like a Fran McCaffery Iowa roster. A lot of outside shooters and a few big slow white guys inside. And like Fran's teams, this roster would be terrible on defense.

Let's focus on the future, or something like that. Maybe he benefitted by playing somewhere else for a year? I'm a little curious about the fact that he never really fit as a PG when he was here.
He's not a pure point but he can play it. He's fast as hell and one of our problems this past year was our guards being quick enough to stay with our opposing guards. He should help in that regard.

You’re confused as to why Basketball Portal news was posted in a Basketball Portal thread? The OP titled the thread Basketball Portal, not Men’s Basketball Portal.
Yes, it's confusing to post a women's basketball transfer with zero context on the 6th page of discussion about the men's portal. The fact you don't think so means you just like to argue about nonsense. Don't let me get in your way, I know you want to get back to all the fascinating women's basketball talk.

RollingLaughNow you can get back to your thing

So the women added one transfer who only averaged 4 points per game, and another that only averaged 5 points per game and quit a year ago and didn't play last season. And they they lost their best recruit who just flipped to BYU (was ranked #59 player in the country). Sounds like things are not going well for the ladies.

Dang can you imagine how much better we'd be if could have had prince and the Utah girl at guard?? Dang.

They have their 8 deep. About all you can add are role players.

We hired a new assistant coach, from Wyoming. Unfortunately they do not have any good transfer players he could bring with him. Their best player already signed with Baylor.

He is known as a defensive-minded coach and a pretty good recruiter, though he has never coached at the major-conference level yet.
Let's hope he brings something to the table from a defensive perspective. Based on the roster that's been assembled, I expect next year's team is going to have alot of match up problems defensively with more athletic teams, which is going to be most of the teams that they play.

Lol... go try and say that on husker hoops central. They'll run you out of town for questioning the new guys we got.

For the record I feel the same way as you! However, Fred said we are taking two more. Hopefully it is two Athletic SF/PF types or a PG and SF/PF

Ezra Ausar to USC
I'm am extremely disappointed it the basketball recruiting efforts this portal season. Some may completely disagree with me and that is okay, but we have 0 players that play above the rim on this team. Yes, we have multiple people that can dunk it, but what we are missing are athletes that can jumo on a dime and create blocked shots.

I understand Fred is recruiting to a system, and that is fine. However in the Big 10 we are going to get our ass handed to us if we don't get a player of equal or better talent as Ausar. It opens up a one on one option on defense, and Berke is about the only one that can do that for us on our current roster. He has also proven (See the Michigan game) he is an offensive liability.

I don't care what Fred has to do money wise, but he needs to get a f***ing athletic SF/PF big on this roster... and a PG wouldn't hurt either

An interesting prospect that is now on our radar is Kimani Hamilton a forward from High Point. Our current assistant, Ernie Ziegler was on Mississippi State’s staff when they signed him 3 years ago. Arkansas and North Carolina St. showed some interest and now Kentucky is in contact with him. Would be the athletic forward we so desperately need.

He has the right name. Venson Hamilton was argubly one of the most under-rated Husker players ever to play at UNL. Danny Nee had to tell a few fibs when recruiting him to get him to Lincoln. Thank goodness.

Kimani Ffriend was also not bad. Not as successful at NU as Hamilton, but I believe he had a long pro career in Europe.

Maybe this is a secret recruiting strategy?
