Coach Bray? I think they both did a great job and both units took big strides forward throughout the season. Coach Bray did a great job considering all of the injuries he had to deal with. I can't wait to see what Bray can do as he gets more time with our young LB talent like Ferguson, Barry, Talan and Young!

The o-line took a huge leap forward late season from what we saw early in the season. Our o-line dominated UCLA in the trenches last night. I know UCLA has a poor run defense, but the o-line did the same thing to MSU who has an excellent d-line.

Coach Bray easily in my opinion. Also liked the work done by Coach Read. Turned Foltz into an all conference punter and Drew Brown seemed much improved as well. Had a tough break with the return game when DPE was hurt.

One question I have is why are we paying big money for a FULL TIME SPECIAL TEAMS COACH when you can't even tell we have one? He's way worse than any special teams individual or by committee group we've ever had at Nebraska! Honestly, what has this guy done? Cut the cord Riley!!!!

I disagree. Coverage units and FG improved from last year. Punt return was missing its returner all season. KOR want great early but improved once Morgan was put back there. I don't know if Read is worth it but special teams..especially in coverage was good. And coverage is much more important than returns.

Bray, and it's not close. With the MASH unit he inherited Bray worked miracles keeping it together. Not a slam on Cav (rotate the players, damnit!) but Bray made bricks without straw this season.

This is the best possible response to the question. Nailed it.

In contrast, this is the worst possible post in this thread. Our special teams coach did nothing to warrant keeping him or paying him the money we are. A committe of staff could do just as good, if not better, than our crap special teams coach did this year. I can't fathom anyone thinking differently. I'm sorry, I just can't.
And no, I don't expect special teams touchdowns. We were lost and any improvement we had was not causation.

You really think the coverage units were lay?

You're really gonna hang your "pay a special teams coach 400k" hat on coverage units considering all the ills our special teams had this year? You haven't got a clue. I never said they were "lay", I said whatever improvement we did have does not warrant a special teams coach and could happen without one. Spend the money elsewhere, our special teams was not up to par for having him have one job.

Lay was supposed to be lost. I'm on my phone.
How about you read my previous post entirely before calling me out. I specifically question if he is worth what he is paid. Moron. Calling me clueless. I've coached high school and college football my entire adult life.

Bray easily. Hughes did a nice job with the d-line but can't seem to recruit. I thought Coach Stewart did an ok job with the development of Jones and Kalu throughout the year.

Gotta go personal with the moron? means you lost and know it. I suggest you read your post again in reference to the post you were replying to. That post questioned why we were paying that coach, and you said I disagree. Which means you think we should have that coach. Or you don't know how to talk or think, which is not my friggin problem. (not to mention your "lost" response to my first post in defense of the coordinator, which again means you disagree)
Oh, you coach? Ooooo I bow to you, almighty coach. My eyes have obviously been deceiving me all year and I am wowed by your association with football which is far superior to anyone else's.
(BTW, you aren't the only coach on this board...not all of us glorify ourselves with it like d-bags)

From my understanding, most the money paid to our special teams coordinator is from Riley's salary. So if we didn't have him, Riley would be getting paid more and we'd have another assistant coach making less.

Bingo! All the bitching about assistant salaries (of the last 2 staffs, especially by bloners) is hilarious considering Bo and his staff made more. One coach spread the money around, one didn't.

Nailed it. DPE would have made a big diff in punt returns. I'm not sure I liked some of the kickoff schemes that we used, but I'm sure Read had his reasons for some of the calls. Our punt return blocking was light years better than we saw two years ago.

Exactly! Here's the alternative for those that want to bitch about having a full time ST coordinator:

Riley would make ~300k per year more
A position coach (or 2-3 position coaches) would spend less time on their units to work on ST.. And they would make a little extra money (total=100k).

So the question is, if a ST coordinator is what Riley wants, would you rather have a few assistants that have less time to focus on their units - and our overall payroll would be the same?

I don't care what other schools do. This is not costing us any money and even the critics concede that our ST was AT LEAST slightly improved this year. I would argue they were quite a bit better despite losing our best ST player early in the year.
