Yesterday at 99 pitches 11k's and just 66 1/3 innings in the MLB under his belt the Pirates pulled Skenes out of his last start before the All Star break with an intact no hitter after 7 innings.
To a rational person this makes a ton of sense to make certain you are protecting that arm for his future. But he will have most of the entire week off this coming week with the exception that he is going to the all star game and will likely pitch one inning 4 days after this start, so on short rest but in the time window that he would have done his in between start work in the bullpen.
Should the Pirates have at the very least given him the 8th and made the decision for the 9th or did they do right by him by pulling him from that game and taking all the emotion out of it?
