Barney Cotton was a better head coach than Mike Riley

Just kinda funny to think Nebraska would've been better off retaining Barney Cotton & removing the interim title, than the route they went. Also, think about all the money that would've been saved. Mike Riley is top dollar as far as 4-8 head coaches go
Ho-lee phuc that is bold! In my opinion that would be a toss up. That is funny though.
I said it at the time. Keep the whole staff except Pelini and I would have been fine with that. I thought Beck would be a better choice but Barney in hindsight would probably have kept the string of 8-9 wins going. Beck was a better recruiter IMO and better organized. Heck, keep the offensive staff and bring in Frank's defensive staff from Ohio and we could have been pretty darned good IMO. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.
You can bag on Barney all you want, but during his time at Nebraska his rushing offenses were ranked 38, 62, 9, 15, 8, 19, and 17. Now at UNLV his rushing offenses have ranked 36, 15 and they are #20 this year. Like him or not I think he has had some success running the football where ever he was at.
He’s average at best. Ameer and Rex made the OL look passable. His OLs just could never get it done against the better teams on our schedule.
Riley is a great coach, except for during the actual games:
Exactly the point and an average head coach with an average DC and our current talent should have been able to win a minimum of 7 and maybe up to 9 games this year.
