Banker Interview

No, I don't

But, I didn't think they would let up 55 to Purdue or lose to Illinois.

The Purdue loss is probably the worst loss in the last 30 years.

With that said, Banker is just fine with me!
Hopefully it is like the Kansas loss of 68.

A converted TE? Freedom's move was due to skill just as much as it was for need. We needed TE's too when he moved. He's talent is just better utilized at DE. He played DE in HS and never played a down @ TE in college in a game.

Maurice has played all 4 years @ NU.

Natter was the #1 HS football player in Wisconsin his SR year.

The Davis twins (young they may be) were heavily recruited and some of the best athletes on the team.

The staff loves Stolenberg

Dzruis isn't ideal but he's played well.

Look at Wisconsin, easily a top 5 D in the nation. Not 1 SR starting on the D-line & their recruiting classes have been ranked pretty low. They had a coaching changes just like us. They even have a new D-cord this year. And let's be honest, Wilcox is doing more with the 3 starters he has in Madison then the 5 stars he had @ USC.

Banker is doing fine. He has somethings he needs to improve on and he'll be the first to admit it. But let's not pretend he's doing it on his own & he doesn't have talent. If your waiting for him to have depth and experience @ all 3 levels, don't hold your breath. It's very rare. There's always somewhere that has new faces.

I agree with all except the Dzruis comment. The guy is tied for sixth in tackles (19) and leads tackles for loss (7) and sacks (3.5). Every time I key on him he is around the ball and he turns stuff in pretty well. I think I'd call him "steady" rather than "isn't ideal."

I agree, He is steady.

In order to have a great Dline, Dzruis would be the "steady" guy always in the mix to make the play, with a beast ready to feast on the QB on the other side. We do not have that, but there have been flashes. But who is the next Dzruis?

The bottomline is that our staff is doing a very good job with what they have (obviously that incldues the entire defensive staff); however, only a fool wouldn't document the concering parts of our defensive roster. If you were to flash back 18 months and said that we would lose both DT starters to the NFL (Collins, Valetine) , Williams would transfer, McMullen would leave football, and be starting Freedom/Dzruis at DE with no depth, AND we would be a T30 defense in early October of 2016 you'd have been laughed off of the internet. No doubt about it.

Carry on with your in-depth analysis of the trees; I'll be having a look at the forest.

I guess I would lift up Oklahoma state as the most embarrassing loss in the last 30 years... to see the mass exodus at halftime couldn't have been more embarrassing as a fan base.

Purdue last year was embarrassing, Wisconsin 2012 was embarrassing, Oklahoma state was embarrassing... but I think we're splitting hairs...
The Okie St game was the last game I attended. I remember actually being able to hear my phone ring and have a conversation with a buddy on how embarrassing the effort on the field was.
