B1G over/under totals

It was particularly comical, coming on the heels of "the professor" confusing then and than. Maybe he is a Michigan grad, with a post-grad degree from Columbia. I don't think it's much of a stretch to assume that his degrees weren't in Language Arts though. :D
No my degrees weren't in language arts...we didn't have a language arts degree at michigan...do you mean English? Or do you mean a foreign language? I took plenty of English classes and had to become proficient in a foreign language (I speak 3). However, I don't get your point. I typed "then" instead of "than" on my tablet. What does that have to do with logic? Michigan teaches you how to think and is not about how to pass a spelling or grammar test. Whatever community college you went to didn't serve you well unless they where preparing you to be a secretary/administrative assistant....congrats on your typing

You are still missing the point...do you really think it is about players waiting for the third coach to show up? Or maybe do you think the exodus happened when coach #2 was fired in two years..after an exodus after coach #1 got fired. And its not like they had highly recruited classes to start with...1-11

You don't get it...its sad really

Ya know, this exchange is fairly pointless, and I'm fairly disappointed in myself for even getting into it. Yes, there may be some attrition. Was there enough for Stanford's talent to dip below OSU's? Who knows. As I said, I would give Harbaugh more of a pass because Riley beat him during Harbaugh's first year, when his offensive and defensive personnel weren't comfortable with the schemes yet.

But I do have a point of contention with you thinking that subpar coaching couldn't take decent talent to a 1-11 record. That point is driven home almost every college football season.

Listen stupid, I know it's difficult to take a beating on a message board, but when arrogant people butcher our beloved language, they make themselves easy targets. So live and learn.

Let me say that an exchange based on one team averaging 2.2 stars over a 4 year period vs another team averaging 1.7 stars over a 4-year period isn't worth it to me. Especially when Harbaugh has said that he learned quite a bit from Riley in the first place.

Holy hell...you think you are winning this argument? Are you delusional or trolling?

The moment you suggested that good talent couldn't result in a 1-11 record, you lost. You remember...when I referenced a number of programs that always have highly rated talent, but shat the bed. That's when you triple-bogeyed, and I stopped by the scorers table and picked up the trophy.

You really want to go with the argument that talented teams go 1-11? Go pick up your trophy I guess...I hear everyone gets one these days

No, I'm saying that if a team has even remotely average talent, which clearly both of these programs did, it is coaching that determined the difference between 1-11 and 10-3. How you don't understand this will be studied for years.

I think its a bit more complex than that - If a team only wins one game but is very competitive in all the games then yes a better coach can get them to 10 wins in a hurry - however if a team is really bad, then a new coach no matter how great he may be, will need to flush out the losing attitude and recruit better/fresh faces

I also think this thought that a Div1 coach is horrible is a bit over blown - every coach got there for a reason and worked his way into a high paying gig even its at Kansas. So I think its a matter that some coaches just standout and are in the right place at the right time as opposed to the school just having a horrible coach

That's about how I see things shaking this year. Michigan is the favorite in the East and winner of Iowa/Nebraska in the West.

Just note: This is a regular season proposition, so if you like the over, you're basically saying this team will exceed last year's performance by 4 games, with mostly the same talent minus a couple NFL D-linemen.

Now granted, obviously you take into account development, getting used to a new system, etc. but it is rare to see a team make a 4 game jump without something drastic happening, e.g., a returning player from an injury, a new QB, etc.

This is where you have to use common sense when looking at numbers. Huskers gave away two games at a minimum so 4 losses last year is misleading.

Fyi...the coach that led Stanford to the 1-11 record came from Pitt where he lead them to 5 straight bowl games including a BCS bowl (interestingly enough one of his bowl wins was a 38-13 thrashing of Oregon State). Pitt didn't make a bowl the following 4 years after Walt Harris went to Stanford. So your point is spot on that there was something more to it than Harris not knowing how to coach.

Sorry, but there are terrible college coaches. And plenty of them. They might know more than us, but they are bad college coaches.

In a relative sense yes you are right. Keep in mind however that even the worst major conference team is paying that coach a lot of money and they were successful at some level. My point is however timing is most times the determining factor. Lots of coaches have failed at one school to go on to success at another and tons have been very successful only to fail when a larger school hires them away

Sorry, but there are terrible college coaches. And plenty of them. They might know more than us, but they are bad college coaches.
How many do you know of that took a team to 5 straight bowl games including a BCS game and then in a new job took a TALENTED team to 1-11...the key word is TALENTED of course...I'm looking forward to your spin on this

You do realize that you are defending the guy that said Stanford had more talent coming off of their 1-11 season then an 8-4 Oregon State team...right? Who cares whether the other poster said something about his educational background. It doesn't change the fact that Hoosker Du's position is moronic.

You're not going to like this much.. Stanford returned 16 starters for the 2006 season, including 10 on offense. But gee willikers, Wally, how could they have 16 returning starters if they had all that attrition? I'm posting the offense first, which as you see had a number of 4th and 5th year players. You should read your own notes and take a moment to think. The first two names that pop out to me are are:

Trent Edwards: Got hurt in 2006 and was not a part of Harbaugh's first team in 2007. The QB you are looking for is TC Ostrander who finished the season as Stanford's starter in 06 but had his career pretty much end in 07 because of seizures (I wish I was making that up, sad story).

Richard Sherman: Yes, that Richard Sherman...he was their best WR as a true frosh in 2006. Think long and hard about that one...their best WR was a 3* true frosh...what happened to the other WRs on the roster...you know the sophs, juniors, seniors and 5th year guys? And Oh...Harbaugh thought so much of his WR skills he moved him to CB.

So I guess they must have been a running team with their QB hurt and their best WR a true frosh who really should have been playing corner. Well their top rusher was a 2* who racked up a grand total of 470 yards on the ground in 2006. That's some real talent there. And your post says nothing about attrition as a team has more than 11 players and 11 players have to start on each side of the ball no matter who stays or leaves.

You were saying? RollingLaugh Do you really think I come into these exchanges without doing a little reading?

One more fun note...the top rated guy that you listed (besides Edwards who got hurt in 2006 and never played for Harbaugh) was Allen Smith. He got hurt in the 3rd game of the 2007 season and never played again. You know we are talking about talent on the field right?

Well look who's here! Ya know, I gotta give you credit. Most people with an ounce of pride would have never come back to face the music. Props to you for coming back after being completely owned.

Now, so I can try to keep up with you changing the argument, we're now back to Harbaugh vs Riley, correct? You've changed things so many times that I have a hard time following. You're like a woman getting ready for a formal...changing clothes multiple times until she finds something that suits the occasion.

Let me first remind you that you first said that the talent on a 1-11 team is obviously poor and it has nothing to do with the coaching. You remember, it was right before you applauded the coach whose head coaching record is 69-85, and was fired after just 2 seasons at Stanford. I think it may have been right after you reminded us all of your educational exploits and multiple languages. Or it may have been wedged in between cracking the generic code and curing cancer. I lost track, because I was clearly far too impressed with your resume. BTW, at this point, I think the board may collectively be in love with you. If you plan on running for office, let us know where to donate to the campaign.

I've already said that I would have to give Harbaugh a pass on his first loss to Riley, because it takes time to get systems in place. But you felt it necessary to continue to push the issue. I was going to let you off easy, but whoopsie, I guess I changed my mind.

Can someone translate this from gibberish and into English for me?

This post is the equivalent of waving the white flag. But please continue. I love watching you backpedal.

They didn't teach stupid at Umich so I'm having a hard time following what you are saying...sorry

Hey, if the bus gets going too fast, pull the cord and the driver will slow down. Oh, I forgot, you're metaphor challenged.

Do you really want me to post the defensive side of the ball...after completely humiliating you with the offense? What a unique case study. I haven't witnessed a masochist up close and in person. As near as I can tell, you are very similar to the rest of us, with the only exception being a desire to be brutally beaten with regularity.

I didn't know you were trying to have sex with me...no thanks

Uh...you're just not real good at this message board stuff, are you?
Actually you are not. The first rule of team boards is that if your own turn on you when you are going after an outsider that means you lost and are quite stupid. ✔ you lost because your own board has called you moronic.

The first rule of any message board is if you have to resort to name calling and grammar call outs then you have lost ✔ on that as well....means you have no real retort.

It's not a rule but if you don't know that the connotation of masochism is sexual in nature then you have little concept of what you call language arts ✔ on putting your foot in your mouth.

Constantly claiming someone has said something they didn't means your jimmies are rustled beyond belief...and that person is living rent free in your head ✔ on that...you should probably kys at this point

Wrong.... Again!! How many times do I have to correct you in this exchange? And you claim to be well educated?

Oh, you must be referring to the guy that said my premise was moronic, and we haven't heard anything from since my post of Stanford's offensive starters. Others are enjoying seeing your arrogant ass being put in its place, in the corner wearing a dunce hat.

Let me help you out. You really struggle with anything related to grammar, sentence structure, or word meaning, don't you? Was that not a part of your curriculum at Michigan?

"Masochist

A person who is gratified by pain, degradation, etc., that is self-imposed or imposed by others."

Hey, you're the one that tried using "then" instead of "than" on a message board. I was once again helping you out, so you don't have to look foolish again in the future.

Ah, the mating call of the clinically uncreative...using the same old verbiage that every other knuckle-dragger on the face of the earth uses..."Living rent-free in your head." I suppose it was only a matter of time before that phrase made its way into your response. What's next "due diligence?" Bravo, I see you've purchased the Rivals online manual of how to respond to posts.

You know you were wrong on the talent level of Stanford, and yet you continue with this charade. Just shut up for once and admit you were wrong, and I will quit abusing you.
