Arik Gilbert

Transfers of this magnitude can go in all directions.
We had one last year that broke our single season records and if you go back and look at our scoring, I doubt we win one game after Frost was fired. He was pretty much it.
Then again, we had a physically gifted Juco transfer who did almost nothing here.
We have a 5 star DB who'll likely never see any meaningful time.

Anything can happen and it tends to be really, really good, or completely ineffective.

A lot of red flags. Two schools, quit the team once already. Hasn't been productive. Not a good look. I know people often think a change of scenery will help but it is not certain. The bigger question is are the coaches willing to take a chance when they are just now building the culture they need while installing lots of new systems? Big risk, on paper doesn't appear to be that much reward.
There is no risk here. We are not signing him to a long term contract. We are not disrupting a winning team of any sort. Stop with this nonsense.

How it ended: Despite the positive early returns in the spring and some high expectations, Gilbert again saw limited action in the 2022 season, ultimately deciding to try his luck at another program.

Arik and Fidone could make some massive mismatches. Gronk Hernandez 2.0… I know many have written Thomas off but I bet he’s going to turn out this season. Remember he’s only a RS sophomore next season

I’m really excited to see Rhule make TE a priority. Him and Satterfield just don’t have a track record of utilizing TEs as a big part of the offense. But nothing I’ve seen this far makes me think that’s their philosophy. I think they’ve just lacked consistency in talent there so haven’t showcased as much.

Have not seen this name brought up much.... I know we'd be school number 3 or 4 maybe? Fidone and this guy would be quite the combo
This is the caliber of prospect that can change an offense, not Brett Seither.

Now, the question as to whether the Husker coaches can maximize his talent and develop his skills is the unknown here. This will be the 3rd school to try so odds aren't good. But if they can...the guy can really stretch the field and be a match-up problem for opposing defenses.

As someone else mentioned, given how poor the Huskers teams have been for years, it's certainly worth the risk. This is a good pickup for the Huskers. There's some similarities here with Zavier Betts.

in the history of Nebraska Football

I don't care about transferring. neither should anybody. you are projecting your own personal feelings by saying he will be a cancer just because he's transferred.

you said he's not been productive. his frosh season would rank 2nd all-time in TE receptions here.

if you want to whine about his "character" with exactly zero proof to back you up, knock yourself out. you have no clue why he transferred or "quit".
Gee, jump to many conclusions. I said the coaches would need to consider all of that and they will. Man, you are a piece some times. Can you vouch for his character? That is why I said the coaches will have to sort it all out, not me on a message board.

Shut up no one cares

“Lots of red flags here”

“Already quit once”

Yea you’re right, it’s me jumping to conclusions

Interesting. See alot of comments that include “him and Fidone would be great options……….”. IMO, I would be shocked if Fidone sticks around once summer rolls around if he doesn’t get the targets in spring practice.

What’s the risk? He quits or leaves the team, ruffles feathers? Versus the reward of him being potentially an All American 1st round type TE talent for Nebraska?

You aren’t very good at the whole risk reward thing, or your just biased towards giving talented players multiple chances.

What? The guy is coming off two ACL injuries, he has a lot to prove. He is also a life long Husker fan, fwiw.

Lol why would he not get targets in spring practice if he’s healthy? You can have more than 1 TE. Weird take.

If that is truly the case show him the door. 2 knee injuries. And still an opportunity to compete? He seems more of a competitive guy then to just leave if competition heats up.

At his best one of most talented TE in college ball. The downside is he hasn't been anywhere near his best in over 2 seasons. Somethings were going on with him, but all we ever heard from our reporters was he was dealing with personal issues. I think he played in a couple of games, but our TE room was pretty good. Whatever his issues are I hope he keeps getting the gelp he needs and has some good years for you. He thinks he is a WR.

Just for clarity, Junior Miller and Johnny Mitchell are head and shoulders above any other tight ends we've had here. Both were impressive people also.
Hard to argue this - those guys averaged almost 20 yards per reception over their NU careers. Mitchell was so good, he declared for the draft after his soph year, which was very rare back then. One of the big what-if questions over the past 20 years is would Matt Herian had joined that group if he had not gotten hurt.

Wasted scholarship and potential cancer. Weigh the risk vs reward. NO ONE of us know the whole story with this young man. The coaches need to do their due diligence on him. And yes. I would say lot's of red flags. Doesn't mean it can't work for both parties though. Very likely could be his last opportunity to prove himself

We don't need 5 stars, we need more walk ons with heart! /s
We need more Talent. Plenty of Heart is great, we’ve just been getting our asses wiped all over the field by BETTER ATHLETES for the last many (many) years. Pure and simple. ‘Heart’ and ‘development’ can only go so far.

Disagree, I followed him for 2 years at UGA. Hoping he could get things together. We were never told what was going on other than personal issues. But if he can get those under control he is the best TE in the Big10. Sure some risk, but there is a risk with everyone you sign.

I trust that Rhule did his due diligence.

I was responding to the post I replied to. His question in a nutshell was, what is the risk. My response was a wasted scholarship and potential cancer. That's it. Hopefully you read my whole post and not the first sentence only

He was never a cancer, wasn't actually with the team in 21, returned for spring practice last spring. But was playing behind 2 pretty good TEs and a frosh who passed him. Like I said hope whatever the issues are have been taken care of and he gets things back on track.

If you or any posters weren't aware "/s" means sarcasm...

Well, shit. Legitimately did not know that.
That said, also truly think that a good % of this board act like talent doesn’t matter…

My bad.
