Are you open to the idea of the NFL being rigged?

Did the doctors that saved his life ever say what they think the cause is?
Pretty sure it was commotio cordis. No preexisting condition just bad timing on a blow to the chest that can stop the heart right then and there. Happens more often in youth baseball but it also happened at an Omaha high school football game a few years back. Chris Pronger also suffered from this taking a puck to the chest

Is there any logical reason why kc v buf is on a neutral while buf v cincy is not?

His own doctor said this was very unlikely

Because Buffalo and Cincinnati played the same amount of games and Buffalo has a better record. KC has an extra game over both teams.

There are definitely some agendas going on. For all the protecting the QB emphasis they have, they really seemed to look the other way whenever Cam Newton took a head shot. The Super Bowl vs Denver was pretty brutal

So is Garrett Wilson inadvertently arguing that the Big 10 is fixed with his "this ain't O State no more" claim? Or is he arguing the NFL is fixed because a call wasn't made? Or both?

I’ll listen to point shaving conversations and a game here or there being affected by $ or bias all day, every day, but believing in a league wide conspiracy is a next level thought process that I just can’t believe is real in some folks brains. Twitter is a minefield for this kind of stuff. Fascinating.

I think the ref who made that comment to Wilson was implying that the Big Ten tends to look out for its darling programs.

Where on Earth he got a crazy idea like that, I can’t imagine.

I don't know how after watching two of the three yesterday that I could conclude the games are rigged. Both the Miami and Baltimore losses were gut wrenching; didn't watch the Vikes.

The league gets a lot of things right. There few in-game delays for official reviews. College games are dreadful in that respect. And the playoff is open, seeded, and fun - quite the opposite of the CFP.

Short answer yes. It's not some top down, centralized grand conspiracy.

I think it's situational. It would be pretty hard for players to throw games. But I believe referees can be influenced to put their thumb on the scale.

Evidence of corruption exists in nearly every organized sport worth watching going back to the beginning of time. It would be impossible to believe there were not shenanigans of some sort in the NFL. I suppose if you do it right, not only is it impossible to prove but even very difficult to spot.

Broad brush there. Show the evidence yesterday? There wasn't a single material call that I said to myself: wrong.

It would take all 32 owners to agree on who the winners will be and good luck finding 33 billionaires to agree on who had to be the loser. I can see it now....Jerrah shrugging his shoulders and agreeing to his Cowboys being named the losers recently in all the playoffs so he can add to his fortune he'll never be able to spend before he assumes room temp anyway...love him or hate him, that guy bends over backwards and is loyal to a fault and would never agree to any of this.

Yep. Most valuable franchise in the world. My beloved Cowboys haven’t seen success in the playoffs in over 25 years is all the proof you need. The amount of revenue that would pour into the NFL in a Cowboys Super Bowl would be absolutely incredible. Not enough commercial time and sponsorships available. Wait until the ratings from tonight’s game are released. Cowboys played in 4 of the 5 highest rated NFL games of the regular season.

The current medical theory is, putting it in schoolboy language, an electrical malfunction caused by sudden impact to the chest area. It's very rare because the body's electrical systems have to be aligned in such a way for the heart to stop due to violent impact.

No matter how tonight ends up I can craft an argument it was fixed.

Cowboys win? The NFL knows they bring in huge ratings and want them in the SB

TB win? NFL knows Brady in the Super Bowl is great for ratings.

Literally with every outcome so far in this year's playoffs you can make a case for every final score being fixed, it never matters how the game ends, it's always fixed....and if you call all it fixed while the game is going on and point to a specific play to prove it, and then that team doesn't win, you just claim fluidity as the reason. Weird.

I will say this thread is a great case study watching those defend something they have 0 idea about.

The correct answer would be: I have no idea

If the games were rigged somehow, the amount of money and energy spent in keeping us from knowing would be unimaginable.

But I do love watching those who disagree build constructs as to comfort their fear.

As far as the original question, there are 2 or 3 guys on the board that have gone completely off the reservation, thinking that the NFL is actually scripting games to produce a specific result.

To believe that you have to ignore a lot of facts. Things like the fact that the NFL is the most popular sport in the United States by a wide, wide margin. Each individual franchise is worth billions (with a "B"). The league itself is worth billions (with a "B") and earns billions (with a "B") each year in ticket sales, merch sales, television broadcast rights, and advertisers. The players and coaches make generational wealth. The referees even make 6 figure salaries to work weekends less than half the year.

Now consider the level of coordination, planning, security, payoffs, etc, and the expense of all that, which would be required to manipulate the results. Now consider the motivation required to do that, along with the risk of doing that. The league is already making insane amounts of money by letting nature take its course. It would be beyond stupid to risk all of that by interfering to produce artificial results that are totally unnecessary.

Referees making bad calls are not a sign of the league being rigged. It is a sign of a referee making a bad call.
The problem with your view here is that it is narrow. You’re only thinking about money and your perceived value of the effort. We don’t truly have any clue of the amount of effort involved for them to do this. There are many accounts by former military that state that the highest level people in the world are generations ahead of us plebs in technology. (Military industrial complex- a pretty credible person spoke about that)

The other part is that if they did go through with the scripting, it would most likely have much greater meanings to them than just money alone. I’m talking about astrology, religious or geographical symbolism or anything else under or over the sun. Now, I know you and most here will not even give that a chance, but I do encourage people to be open minded and humble about what we think we know about our world and ALL of the people in it. Unfortunately most of the “hard evidence” we have is only on the field on Sundays in the form of endless bullshit that we’re supposed to believe.

Also people really need to stop with the “no one ever” has come out and said it. Several current and former players have.

yes we know. Have not had much time to follow the news. The question was if that’s what his doctors said. Legit asking because I know they have talked, but have not watched.

Since the days of Carroll Rosenbloom and Pete Rozelle, there's never been a doubt in my mind the games can be and are fixed. Not all, just some.

Anytime you have a lot of money involved, doesn't matter which profession, humans will be humans. I quit watching pro football years ago and although tons of fans love it, I see the trademarks of what a "cheat" consists of.

We'd like to think all these professional athletes are swimming in money due to huge contracts. Other than their league pension, probably 75% of the guys retire broke. Brady and his wife lost $ 600 Million in the FTX fiasco.

Please understand, like I said I don't play any football games, but I love horseracing and that's as dirty as it gets. So, I'm not some naive gambler. At least I got into the business with the reality that even though the horses do the running, there will always be a human factor.

By all means, enjoy the games, I'm not here to shit in your chili. Just ask yourself how most NFL QBs can laser that ball within a whisker of where they want it to go, especially when there isn't a ton of pass rush.

For 58 minutes they thread the needle, then all of a sudden they overthrow by 3'-4' or behind the receiver. Or they throw picks like Favre and Marino and countless others. Those guys can make those throws in their sleep or they wouldn't be on a roster and playing when it counts.

I'm certainly not dogging anyone who loves to watch and even wager on the games. I get it. If I couldn't wager on horses I sure the hell wouldn't go to a race track just to watch.

Lastly, I can't prove pro football is fixed, and you can't prove that it's not.

Let 'er rip!!

Because Buffalo and Cincinnati played the same amount of games and Buffalo has a better record. KC has an extra game over both teams.
They wouldn’t have the better record if the Bengals beat them in that cancelled game.
And the Bengals played 7 home games and 9 road games because if it. The Whole thing is ridiculous. The League acted like the Bills were the winner of that game for some reason. Guess that’s what was in the script for that week.

If they were acting like the Bills were the winner, a Bills-Chiefs AFC title game would be in Buffalo, not on a neutral site.

I wish they would have just pushed the AFC playoffs back a week and made up that game. It would have meant the NFC champ got two weeks of rest vs. one for the AFC champ, but it would have been the fairest way to proceed, in my opinion.
