are we ignoring a local qb?

Has this scenario ever played out? Like, anywhere in the history of college football? That back-to-back brothers have a had like a 6-7 year run as the starting QB at a major program? I'm not saying it never has, but I sure can't remember it. Highly highly unlikely.

I doubt very seriously that there has ever been any kind of guarantee for this scenario promised just to get Dylan, but if there was, then we are dumber than I thought. It sure seems a few other crazy guarantees were offered to get him, so I guess you never know. But that would be a whole new level of insane. Much more likely that him being offered was the extent of it.
We are likely taking 2qbs regardless 26. Even if Trae Taylor doesn’t reclassify we are probably taking two. Sound like Jett and his father are just trying to make excuses because N has not offered.

Either that or they figure there will not be a fair chance to compete.
What would they be basing that opinion on? Kaelin not getting a fair shot against Dylan Raiola? Or is it the Sims, Purdy, Haarberg rotation from the previous season, where clearly no one was given a shot to do better than the other guy?

Human nature. I'm not saying that they wouldn't actually get a chance to compete, but a fair number of people would look at the situation and look elsewhere. They don't know the Husker staff well, NU is not recruiting the kid very hard- does he even have a committable offer? NU already has their guy....

One piece of advice that I would give athletes was to go to a place where the staff loves you. That means they see something in you. Their eye for talent says that you are going to start. That way confirmation bias is on your side, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, et al. Now turn that the other way around. If you're not "the guy" but have been brought on anyway, you may have a tougher road to playing time and you better know that going in.

Side note on your Sims, Purdy, Haarberg comment, do you care to elaborate? Not sure what you mean.

I've always heard the sound advice was to not base your decision on the staff much at all. Because coaches (position and/or head) have a revolving door and could be gone any given year. So, pick a place that you like, not a staff. Of course, that was probably before all this portal crap, so maybe not nearly as applicable anymore. Yeah, you're advice is probably better in today's landscape.

Sims, Purdy and Haarberg were all given an opportunity to start, sometimes it was due to injury, sometimes ineffectiveness, but all were given an opportunity to keep the job. Same could be said of Raiola, Haarberg and Kaelin last year. All of the QBs were given opportunities in spring and summer, clearly Raiola was the best QB of the 3. Haarberg seemed to deal with it, as he and Raiola appear to be pretty close friends. Kaelin saw the writing on the wall and left for UVa.

That is also good advice. It's good to also look at the coaching situation- is the coach going to be there a while?

Saw Top 2027 TE 5-star Ahmad Hudson had a good visit but also going to be tuff to land. But I noticed #3 on list was a SD kid named Cooper Terwilliger. Anyone know if Cooper has any relations to Ryan? Terwilliger isn’t a very common name

At this point that should absolutely be the goal when targeting all of our players.

I get so tired of fans falling in love with some of these lower level local or program "connected " guys because of familiarity. Its past time for us to start acting like a big boy program. You wanna be in the playoff then start recruiting that way. Can THIS kid be the the type of player to lead us to the playoffs? THAT should be the question our coaches are asking when we are putting these offers out. You have to be shooting for the stars. Of course we won't get em all but you gotta try.

Our fans always cry about us not offering some local kid who may or may not be that type of athlete. Then when he hits the field and proves to not be THAT type of kid we are critical of him . He is who he was. It's not his fault he just isn't that guy.

If I'm being honest it's why I have had a problem with our DBs. I love those guys like Giff and Singelton, Buford, and Hartzog. Problem is they are NOT guys we are making the playoffs with. We should be targeting and landing better talent if we TRULY wanna talk about playoffs. The fact that we haven't recruited guys who can beat them out truly scares me. These guys for the most part are just OK.

You don't make playoffs with just OK guys.

Sorry for long rant.

Hearing Ruhle say what he said in his press conference is EXACTLY what I've been saying since he got here. When we recruit and sign guys the question we need to be asking ourselves is can we compete and beat the Ohio St , Penn St, and Oregon's of this country with these guys. Can't afford to fall in love with these local kids if they aren't good enough to get that done. Can't afford to keep playing players with what I'd call lower upside higher floor because they know they are more experienced. I hope like hell this is the case and those guys aren't pencilled in because they started last year .

Like I said if we wanna beat those guys we have to aim higher, recruit better and develop better. Plus make sure you can hit that all important QB . I hope people understand it's not a slight either. If guys wanna win at that highest level you wanna make sure you are bringing in guys capable of doing that. Gotta be patient for sure but the fact that he finally said it makes me feel a lot better. Now let's see if we can do it.

My question ro Husker fans would be does thus bother you? If so SHOULD it bother you?

Doesn't bother me either. Maybe a couple of those guys end up as good players but currently we don't have the luxury as a program to take those kinda chances on most of those guys. Is what it is...

yea

we have nothing but sure things on our roster

no room for top 200 kids with offers all over P4

3 star with drive better than 4 star with big swollen head
no niche me too offense unlikely to ever succeed against teams in higher talent areas

So if would have taken all 6 would you be happy or critisise. Seems you're critical no matter what. I give you a lot of leeway but honestly I can't figure you out

I’ve been very pleased with Rhule’s in-state recruiting his first two years here.

If we

If we start winning at a much higher clip no one will give it a second thought. If we stay stuck at 6-6ish, it will be an issue.

I'm sure this is the case. But as a HC I hope he does exactly what he says. Hard to operate feeling like their is outside forces that believe you "have" to have x amount of in state guys on a roster IF you aren't winning.

Like it's ok to lose with instate guys but losing without them ...nah (I know that's not what you are saying). Maybe the difference is you are going 7-6 without them but 3-8 with them lol. Either way you are probably getting fired.

I think MR understands the assignment. JUST WIN! Idc if it's with a roster full of in state kids or a roster without one . Just win!

I'm not even judging by stars. Very easy to assume higher Star better player. Not always the case.
3 star with drive vs 4 start with swollen head isn't the case always either.

What about a guy who simply doesn't have enough talent to play higher level BIG football vs guys who ARE. REGARDLESS of where they are from or there star rating.

Most always assume that's the case when you are talking in state vs out of state. Again which would be a mistake. Some of our biggest misses have been highly rated IN STATE guys. Hall, McMorris, and Coleman come to mind.

When you hear Ruhle you wonder if he offered some of these guys because he HAD to. If he had to do it over I think he let some go elsewhere. Not just those guys either. There is a handful of guys in this year's class that I feel the same way about. I'm glad he is being more selective. I just hope our game base allows him the opportunity to do that with the main goal of winning FIRST. It's different now. Can't afford to miss on these guys now. I hope they are more selective out of state as well. It shouldn't just be Nebraska in state guys. It should be all of them.

I wouldn't mind if they dropped a commit they currently have from this this years class of I'm being honest . Times have changed. It is what it is.

Given the situation he walked in to, I think he “had to” in part to fill needs. It’s not like top talent was lining up to go to a team that hadn’t been to a bowl game since they were in 6th grade…., He had some fences to mend with area coaches and fans in addition to some gaping roster holes.
