Now this has me excited…Farmer with the backups!

Based on the info above and various news reports, the first team spring offense seems pretty straight forward...

QB- Simms
RB- Ervin/Allen
WR- Kemp
WR- Fleeks
WR- Washington
TE- Boerkircher/Gilbert
LT- Corcoran
LG- Piper
C- Scott
RG- Nouilli
RT- Benhart

The defense is trickier.

DL might be Robinson, Jeudy, Hutmacher/Wynn

Who is getting 1st team reps at LB? Borders, Reimer (is he limited?), Gunnerson (is he playing LB or DE?), Bullock (White recently prasied him)

How about DB? With Buford out, I'm surprised Farmer is with the 2's. Who is getting first team reps at Safety?- Gifford, Hartzog (being moved around), Brown, Wright (is he limited?) Sanford?

CB- If Hartzog is playing saftey, who is getting 1st team reps at the other CB spot? Lynum?

Hard to see Fleeks holding off Betts. Also hard to see Boerikrocher holding off Gilbert and Fidone.

And how does the OL shuffle change when Teddy is cleared? Corc to OG, RT or a swing backup at both OT’s?

Yeah. Three of the other QBs aren’t throwing right now……so there is that.
2 of those 3 are incapable of throwing at their healthiest

So there’s that

To all posters with poop in their pants because of their personal feelings toward me - IT IS GOOD TO FOR THE PROGRAM THAT HH IS DEVELOPING & OUR VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE COACHING STAFF HAS TAKEN A SHINE TO HIM

You’re Husker fans, remember?

I did laugh

It’s a good post

Others here are actively rooting against Haarberg, which I find absolutely delightful
I don’t think people are actively rooting against HH, are they? Skeptical that he could be the guy, sure. But rooting against him? Don’t know about that.

The best news about this is the competition this breeds. If HH comes out in in the fall and emerges as the starter, he will have earned it and will absolutely be the best man for the position. That’s a good thing.

He's the only QB besides Torres that doesn't have any real game film on. Rhule knows exactly what Purdy and Smothers can do. Haarberg is very athletic and Rhule has name dropped him. in the past, it was not uncommon to develop QB's over time (Gdowski, McCant). The question Rhule has to figure is can he afford to use a scholarship on a developmental QB.

@dinglefritz actively roots against him & takes shots at him every chance he gets

you won't find a single post in his history to suggest otherwise

sad

I'd be happy if HH developed into a great QB and wins a bunch of games and accolades here. But this spring storyline reminds me an awful lot of AJ Bush Mike Riley's first spring here. He was the talk of the town about how big fast strong armed and athletic he was. I think he ended up being 4th string after spring. Now having said that AJ Bush did go on to start at Virginia Tech and Illinois after his time here so you can argue he was a developmental success. Just not at NU though.

A home grown, 6’5” speedy diamond in the rough develops into a starting quarterback

The horror!!!!!
We have qb #1 who has started at Texas and Nebraska. And did a pretty decent job. Qb #2 started 23 games over 3 seasons at GT.

So if HH, who hasn't played a snap that I'm aware of, is our starter this year then something must be very, very, wrong.

Casey - a player I like - has never won more than 4 games in a season

Sims - a player I've watched a lot - has never won more than 3 games in a season

experience is important. but it's not that important.

OR the other alternative is that maybe something was wrong with the previous head coaches (Frost and Joseph) in being able to recognize talent. I personally don't care who rises to the top, just be sure whoever that is, it's the guy that can best win games on the field.

Experience definitely matters when we open against a good conference opponent on the road. There isn't a break in period this year.

I definitely acknowledge Frost could have been off on his evaluation but what are the odds 1 head coach, 1 interim HC, and 2 different OC's all missed on even giving him a single snap?

Not saying he can't develop but I will be very concerned if he starts.

Why are they talking to HH about moving positions if they think he's a great QB prospect?
No idea. Some qb's are obviously going to leave or switch positions. I don't see CT or Sims going anywhere. So I would imagine he would have to choose between being the 3rd string qb or moving to TE.

I think they have a philosophy of training kids for multiple positions. They may see him as a back up QB candidate but want to get him on the field in another position if/when he's not the active QB. I remember Rhule not long ago saying how fast he was which really surprised me.

the media is inventing that bc of his measurables (inarguably impressive)

coaches like him at QB & both he and they have said as much
Yeah, but HH said they had talked to him about it and that he is open to it. I don't think you even have that discussion if it's not a possibility.

I could see a Taysom Hill type situation with Haarberg- a utility/special teams guy with a package of plays and he also functions as a backup QB. I think many of us envisioned Luke McCaffery like this.

Yep…remember what happened last time we put a qb in over a seasoned sr? Things went quite well that year…

I think some of our answers will be answered after the spring game..

Don’t think HH will end up starting but I would seeing him be in the top 3..

It's been obvious that HH has talent over the past 2 spring games.. where that goes from here? who knows, but I can only hope his stock can go up. Would not surprise me to see HH leap over Smothers and Purdy. I don't know if he would finish first on the depth chart, but due to injuries, he could easily be a couple plays away from that. Glad he's getting a good look by this staff.

Lets also not forget HH is in a green jersey as in don't hit the QB. Nice run but the the defence isn't looking to light up the QB. That and it's the initial practices of spring. I hope HH does develop, its the best scenario for Nebraska to have three good QB.
