Anyone been to Charlottsville, VA?

So I'm heading out on a guys trip to DC this week...one of the days, we're wanting to go see Monticello in Charlottsville...my question: Is Charlottsville worth getting a hotel and spending the night? Looks like a quaint little town, but am unaware of all there is to do or see (aside from Montincello)

I went to Monticello as a kid. Don't remember if we did anything else in the area. We had gone to Gettysburg, then down to Jamestown, Williamsburg and Yorktown before we hit Appomattox on the way out. Monticello was in there at some point.

We lived in Charlottesville from 2008-2012. In addition to Monticello, you might want to check out Skyline Drive and Luray Caverns, which are a little north of Charlottesville. I'll ask my boss tonight what else there was to see around Charlottesville, as she was more involved with taking our little guys places than I was.

Also, UVA is in Charlottesville, so it's kind of neat to check out their campus.

Charlottesville is a cool town. I would definitely stop and check it out for a day or two.

Went to a football game there. Beautiful campus and surrounding area.

If you're hungry after Monticello, try Michies Tavern, very close by, for lunch

Great fried chicken and fixins

We were getting some gas at some old time station. The one where they're sitting out on the front porch. The proprietor tells us that the Queen of England was visiting the local community college. So, we were able to see the Queen come in by helicopter and take pics of her from afar. Also, we met the great, great great grandson of Thomas Jefferson or something like that. Looked just like him, down to the long red hair. It was a cool trip I believe all the motels were full and we ended up staying in some mansion that they used as overflow.

Okay, a couple of other things - there's a bunch of wineries in the surrounding areas if you do some research; there's also a downtown mall, walking only, it has a lot of nightlife there along with free concerts - completely forgot about that; the "corner" that is across from UVA, more nightlife there; just remembered, there's a distillery north of Charlottesville, I think it's in Sperryville, they use my firm's software, so I'll try to get more info tomorrow. Actually just tracked it down, Copper Fox Distillery.
