Another Gabbert QB

Speaking of Gabbert, Chase Daniel was seen in a NJ Hooters putting ghost pepper sauce on his nose fruit.

How'd I miss this? Never heard this story.
Ganz told it during a radio talk show as I recall. I remember it being verified by some of his former teammates. I liked the baller way Ganz played but he's an ass Freeman might have been a Husker if not for Ganz and like him or not, he was a better college QB.

I'm trying to find the original audio of him on "The Bottom Line" radio show talking about it, but it's hard to find. Here's a post from another forum that summarizes it.
Joe Ganz has joined the OWH's online radio show The Bottom Line, as a co-host. Yesterday, he had a funny story about the real reason why Josh Freeman de-committed from NU and went to Kansas State.

Freeman was on his recruiting visit early in the season in 2006. Joe Ganz got in a game during mop-up duty and ended up throwing a TD pass. Later that night, Ganz, Nate Swift, and their housemates hosted a party at their house. Freeman and his dad showed up at this party and were just hanging out. The guys were watching highlights from the Lincoln TV station, and the TD pass by Ganz was shown. Freeman made a comment like "well, that guy won't be throwing any more TD's when I show up here". Ganz heard it, might have been a little drunk, and flipped out. He got in Freeman's face and was ready to knock him out. Freeman was eventually told to leave the party, and later the next week he changed his commitment to Kansas State.
I remember that the Ganz's tone of voice and omission of in-between details sounded really odd. Coupled with the fact that he mixed up dates.

Damn, that's crazy but definitely sounds like college dudes. This is the kind of behind-the-scenes stuff that goes on in a program that us fans never hear about at the time. Like, there's probably two guys on defense right now that hate each other and we have no idea. It can effect on the field stuff.

You said Freeman was the better college QB

Ganz vs Freeman (2006-2008):

Completion %: 65.1 to 59.1 Ganz
TD/Int: 44/18 to 44/34 Ganz
QB rating: 157.4 to 124.7 Ganz
Running: 115 for 341 (3.0) to 214 for 343 (1.6) Ganz

Freeman started 3 years at KSucks
2006 7-6
2007 5-7
2008 5-7
Ganz started some in Callahan’s disastrous final season before being 9-4 as the starter in 2008. This included a Bowl win over Dabo Swiney’s Clemson squad.

Ganz was definitely the better college QB

Ganz most definitely had better offensive coaches than Freeman but I’ll accept your numbers without fact checking them. Do better college statistics mean the QB is better or is he playing on a better team with better coaching?

Haha yeah sure. And Chubba Purdy was better than Jayden Daniels, just LSU had better team, coaches, etc🤪

Freeman probably had 2-3x as many starts as Ganz though.

Either way, Freeman was a bust people should've seen coming from miles away. There was an awkward period where guys like him, Christian Ponder, EJ Manuel, etc were drafted high just because they looked pretty in the pocket with a football in their hands.

Anthony Richardson is a throwback to this familiar phenotype.

Meanwhile here is Ganz throwing for a school record 510 yards and 7 TDs against KSucks in 2007.
I was a Joe Ganz fan before he was a starter. He played with reckless abandon but threw a lot of picks. Way better QB than that last clown Callahan brought in. That said, Josh Freeman's talent exceeded Ganz's. Ganz had a way better offensive coaching staff.

Gantz is the guy that ALWAYS makes me think there has to be a guy on the roster that would ball out if given a shot. How many Gantz types spend their career on the pine and never get that shot?
We see QBs at MAC or small schools pop up almost every year on draft boards. Ganz was a multi-sport player who was on track to play college baseball until NU offered him. He threw too many interceptions to be an elite QB but he had guts.
