@oldjar07 probably thinks about that time we could have had Peyton Manning, Joe Burrow and Joe Montana on our roster. Time lines don't match but it was possible!!ššEwers, Ward, Gabriel.
What a QB room we should have had.

Whipped pigs? Now I know you're an Iowa fan.Keep thinking small is the main reason we are where we've been for the last decade. Nebraska fans are like whipped pigs, afraid to think big. The only way to get to national prominence again is to aim higher. There are several examples of teams carrying 2 capable quarterbacks. No reason why we shouldn't be able to, especially when we have the NIL funds to do it.
There's no need to give him the benefit of the doubt anymoreShoot, no chance. I was trying to give you the benefit of the doubt, but nope you doubled down. Mr Roarke and Tattoo are expecting you in your cabana.
Please list the teams from 2024. We know Texas. Let's break down the others.Keep thinking small is the main reason we are where we've been for the last decade. I will go with Ohio St. They brought in Howard, then signed Sayin and Noland, of course Noland just transferred out, Howard is done and now you have just Sayin left with true freshman 5 star Tavien St Claire. IF Ohio St signs another senior transfer QB, one of those 2 will transfer as well. If not they have 2 freshman (1 RS and 1 true freshman) battling it out to start. After Devin Brown transferred out and Keinholz is soon to follow. Please list the teams from 2024. We know Texas. Let's break down the others.
Yeah but even he is faster than Tagge. Tagge couldnāt have run a 5 flat 40 with a 60 mph tailwind šVanderbilt's Diego Pavia reminds me of Tagge. Doesn't look like a guy who should beat you, but he moves the chains.
You are literally the only person on the planet that thinks we could have had both McCord and Raiola.Once again, could have gotten both. I'll pick the more mobile quarterback every time, and even McCord has shown more mobility than Raiola.
Kienholz should probably hit the portal if he doesnāt win the OSU job in the spring.I will go with Ohio St. They brought in Howard, then signed Sayin and Noland, of course Noland just transferred out, Howard is done and now you have just Sayin left with true freshman 5 star Tavien St Claire. They already played Sayin in front of him, he played in 3 games as a true freshman, didn't touch the field this season. I suppose if he wants to be a career 3rd stringer and be a part of championship level teams he could stay, but the writing was is on the wall.Kienholz should probably hit the portal if he doesnāt win the OSU job in the spring.
I am also the only person on this planet who has solved world poverty and peer competition with the greatest military power ever. You are literally the only person on the planet that thinks we could have had both McCord and Raiola.
You're just thinking small and a major reason we're not in the CFP. Looo-hooo-zer!You are literally the only person on the planet that thinks we could have had both McCord and Raiola.
China?I am also the only person on this planet who has solved world poverty and peer competition with the greatest military power ever.
Exactly... as he stated earlierYou are literally the only person on the planet that thinks we could have had both McCord and Raiola.
ANY QB worth a damn who commands a 6 figure NIL deal will not be content sitting a whole season, I would be wary of anyone coming in and getting 6 figures who is fine with that. The age of NIL has almost singlehandedly eliminated the patience of a backup that is that caliber. As much as it pains me to to believe that... that is the reality. Loyalty to a school is rare now. Be happy DR seems locked in and all N.High six figure income has a way of motivating a guy to do a lot of things.
He had a very good year but he looked downright awful at times
Iāll agree not all of it was on him (OC, line, WRs) but I just donāt see a great QB right now
The 2 slides in the 4q yesterday were really dumb
1 late just asking for an injury
1 early when we need a first down to ice the game
I will say that this was the first season in a long time that 3rd and long didnāt seem like an impossible task.
Not being completely sold on DR is a completely reasonable take. There are question marks.
Saying he sucks or that Nebraska would be better without himā¦completely unreasonable.
I tend to disagree a bit on QB. I wouldn't trade the remaining 3 years of Raiola for 1 year of any of the other QBs in the playoff. The key is the trenches. You need to have an OLine that can hold up to the defensive lines and a defense that can hold up to the physical play.Watching these playoff teams illustrates pretty clearly how much improvement is needed at the QB position. Let's just hope it was being a true freshman and not that he's just not that great. Fairly certain it's the former, but who knows I guess. Time will tell.
And I'm not sure anyone is really saying he sucks or we'd be better off without him (haven't read the whole thread, so maybe some are). You're right, both those takes seem unreasonable. The only argument I might buy is that if we'd had McCord this year, we'd have been better at QB. Pretty hard to disagree with that.
We're not keeping Raiola for 3 more years, and if we do, he's probably not the all world QB that most of this sub thinks but we've seen little evidence of.I tend to disagree a bit on QB. I don't know if we'll ever have an elite Oline under Donovan, but it at least seemed serviceable this year.Coach Raiola is getting the Oline straightened out and is probably an OT away from being able to roll into the 2025 season. There is a lot of young talent in that room and with younger Raiola at QB, NU should be competitive in the transfer portal for OL talent. So I guess my question is that in say 2026, why would we want to not have Raiola entering his third year as a starter with an Olne that is peaking, one of the better OCs in the game, plus a revamped receivers room? In my mind, teams should always want to bring young QB talent in and if they don't work out, use the portal to correct that mistake, instead of getting locked into scrounging around the transfer portal for starting QB talent every year or two.

We are so far behind the playoff teams at every single position on the 2 deep that any of their QBs playing here would produce similar 6-6 resultsHard to make that argument when 3 of the final 4 playoff QB's are portal guys. Maybe that's the correct formula in this day and age?
We are so far behind the playoff teams at every single position on the 2 deep that any of their QBs playing here would produce similar 6-6 results
They can plug QBs in because their foundations are very strong, especially on the lines and on defense
Our QB is our best player. We have nobody else even close to his level. The playoff teams have high draft picks everywhere
Some truth to this. I think some of the younger players have that potential. Watching the playoff even ASU plays with much more edge and urgency. We are so far behind the playoff teams at every single position on the 2 deep that any of their QBs playing here would produce similar 6-6 results

Eh... Maybe? I think we lack the alpha players. If we had a Cam Skattebo or a Travis Etienne what does our W/L look like? Easily a couple games better. I don't think we are as far away as you think we are. We won't agree on that, but I like our O next year outside of the RB position and probably a couple of OL. D needs some work, but similar just a few pieces and those can still potentially happen in the portal. Schedule is also going to be a big factor and ours sets up pretty well.We are so far behind the playoff teams at every single position on the 2 deep that any of their QBs playing here would produce similar 6-6 results

After watching Stockton last night, I suspect Georgia wishes Dylan had signed with them.We are so far behind the playoff teams at every single position on the 2 deep that any of their QBs playing here would produce similar 6-6 results

I was thinking the same thingAfter watching Stockton last night, I suspect Georgia wishes Dylan had signed with them.
They aren't where they are because of QB play. They are where they are because they play great defense and have enough on the OLine to run the ball.Hard to make that argument when 3 of the final 4 playoff QB's are portal guys. Maybe that's the correct formula in this day and age?
I was of the opinion after AM's freshman year he was a future Heisman candidate and our best pro prospect in many years. It was good enough that most fans were satisfied with not getting Joe Burrow (which seems ludicrous now). He struggled after that season as his accuracy and poise seemed to degrade to the point that every throw seemed off target. A ton of that was an atrocious OL that would have been the ruin of many QBs. We also had a completely anemic running game when Washington flaked out.No. I think DR will do very well. But we are talking about their frosh seasons. And like him or not, AM had a very very productive frosh season. And IMO - his frosh season was more impressive than DRs frosh season. Thatās my opinion and others have different opinions. But I do think there is a portion of the fan base that likes to bash AM. DR had a ton of mistakes as a frosh. For some reason - bringing that up only elicits venom from people like you.
More impressive receiving corp - Maybe. I think Barney starts on that team. Speilman transferred and was relegated to 3rd team at his new school. Ziggy was good. But Iād like to see how Emmitt Johnson would have done as our bell cow this year (all year - rather than the last 3-4 games).
Are you a psychic.I don't know if we'll ever have an elite Oline under Donovan, but it at least seemed serviceable this year.
You are basing your opinion on what he does with an offensive line that wouldn't touch the field at the remaining 4 schools. Just look at Howard. He was a career 57% passer at KState, then went to OSU and he is 73% 32 TDs, it wasn't him that changed.I understand all that and certainly don't disagree. But I would also argue that you plug DR into any of those four teams and they're not making it as far as they have this year. Can also argue that if you give us any of those 4 QB's this year and we win at least a game or 2 more.
You mean like the 3 of the 4 remaining QBs that are playing that are all in their 4th, 5th or 6th year or the one that is a junior that will be back at Penn St next year for his 4th season? We're not keeping Raiola for 3 more years, and if we do, he's probably not the all world QB that most of this sub thinks but we've seen little evidence of.
People are too hard on AM. He played better at KSU for the exact reasons he struggled at Neb. The OL was a complete shit show and only this past season have I see legitimate growth there. Our running game was also complete garbage after we lost Maurice Washington (who was a good RB even if he was a head case). Add to that the fact the Frost didn't recruit another legit P5 QB after AM. McCaffrey, Smothers, etc were all destined to either change position or play in the lower divisions. Haarberg is a great athlete but was always a project player and he'll make a heck of a TE. But he is not going to start at QB for almost any non-option team.Turned out frost was a shitty head coach, as was his quarterback coach. AM was a good quarterback, which he showed at K State, as well as in his freshman year here. DR may turn out better with a better offensive coaching staff. As they say the jury is still out.
It's called projection based off of ample evidence. Donovan has been here longer than anybody else. Are you a psychic.
If Raiola's good enough, he's taking off for the NFL as a high round draft pick. If he's not, we're stuck with him like we were with AM. In either case, pro potential doesn't always translate to the college game. You mean like the 3 of the 4 remaining QBs that are playing that are all in their 4th, 5th or 6th year or the one that is a junior that will be back at Penn St next year for his 4th season?
Well that is a different argument, one that I am not making. I simply stated that I would not trade Raiola's remaining 3 years of eligibility for 1 year of eligibility of the other 4 QBs still playing. The QB play for Texas, Penn St, Notre Dame and Ohio St, is not the reason they are in the semi finals. Defense and OL play is.If Raiola's good enough, he's taking off for the NFL as a high round draft pick. If he's not, we're stuck with him like we were with AM. Raiola is not staying for the full 3 remaining years of eligibility unless it is under circumstances that aren't good for us.Well that is a different argument, one that I am not making. First of all the point being made is that I wouldn't trade his 3 years of eligibility for 1 year of the others. FACT - he has 3 years of eligibility left. Whether he uses them and what the circumstances are for Nebraska was not a part of the comment.Raiola is not staying for the full 3 remaining years of eligibility unless it is under circumstances that aren't good for us.
