All in with Riley.

Tough loss but I'm confident good things are ahead in years to come. All aboard.
Ok I do applause those that have the mental toughness to always look at the positive in life. From what I have seen you have supported MR since day 1. My question is what leads you to be so positive? Are you just going on cross your finger hope? or have you see things others are missing that leads you to believe beyond doubt MR will succeed? If you have facts to back up you optimism I and others really need something to be positive about.

Good heavens. We've lost VV, Kevin Williams, Kevin Maurice, Freedom, Banderas, Micheal Rose Ivy, then Weber and Newby were playing hurt. We got beat on a last second field goal with ALL those guys out and you can't see a positive? THAT'S OVER HALF THE DEFENSE! On top of that we lost potential starters Avery Moss, LeRoy Alexander, David Santos and the Love kid to transfers and academics. What the hell did you expect this year? I figured we were screwed if we lost ONE LBer or DE this year to injury. Bray and Banker have done a helluva job of trying to plug the holes but you can't play a bunch of walkons and underclassmen and not expect a dropoff. Wisconsin had Iowa beat if not for a fumble inside the 5 yard line. The kids that these coaches are recruiting and sitting well with right now have the potential to come in and make an early impact and that is the only thing that can fix the mess BP left this coaching staff.

I've posted about them a ton. If I have time this week I'll add more from this game. But I'm not going to be dragged down by the losers who are flipping shit in year one. Won't do it.

On the train. Give these guys time or GTFO.

But, but, but, there's still enough talent.......

Believe it or not, I'm moving in your direction. I stand by all the concerns I've previously stated, but if Riley is willing to work his ass off and do what it takes to win going forward, I can support him.

I feel bad about the toxic culture and crap recruiting efforts he inherited.

The buzz I get from my "Lincoln insider" is that even with the losses, recruiting looks very good. A lot of the kids we are in on are highly ranked guys that will announce late. The positive vibe from Riley and his staff has been a breath of fresh air for the program. The job Bray has done with Newby, Weber and Gifford has been impressive IMO. I don't know of any coach in football that could have dealt with all the injuries we've had on defense. Good heavens, I thought if we would have lost just ONE of Bando, MRI or a DE that we were totally screwed. MRI would make a TREMENDOUS difference right now.

I'm in.

What gives me hope is seeing some of the talent that visited yesterday. Will they all come to Nebraska? No... But I believe enough of them will that we can begin to get an influx of talent like we haven't seen since Callahan.

I know many are not high on the recruiting right now but I am hopeful come February many will be talking about how this class shaped up nicely.

I'm all N with Mike. There's no other way to be right now. We're not going to just shuffle coaches out the door until one comes in here and wins 10 games out the gate. If he's not the guy, then I'm all N on the next guy, but no need to keep kicking yourself in the nads until then.

Certainly there's inconsistency within the various units, but I'm hoping that we can find some way to be halfway decent in the secondary over the next few games or certainly as a jump into next year. If we could be just "bad" instead of "dead last" we might be undefeated for all our other ills.

We certainly aren't dominant across the other units, but there's enough spark to have hope. Bray doing a bang up job with the LB's, walk ons freshman or otherwise. Same for the DL in the run game. The OL has its moments and it says something that Gates, a youngin, is probably on the greatest arc. QB we need a guy that can read the field, receivers are good, and we have some choices at RB. Carter coming along and Snyder should be solid.

If this team can hold it together mentally, we should be in every game we play this year, we can get healthy and get more reinforcements this off season.

I am not denying the horrible injuries. That for sure doesn't help, but injuries don't account for the horrible time management, the number of penalties( both witch have follow MR through is career in coaching. I could be wrong but I want to say MR had more players go in the NFL draft at OSU over a certain period than Nebraska. So he had talent there and still couldn't put together a championship team. I know this has been asked, but why Nebraska? Most schools in the country have similar facilities, spend similar money. Besides our history, what do we offer MR that will turn his coaching career around and win championships?
Don't get me wrong, I will support this team and program no matter what. I will watch every heart breaking loss if I have to_One can question and still support.

No one on this board, or in the world for that matter, will be able to convince you. I wish I could.

I'm wondering how much chance a Riley had at players like O'Brien and Key Jr. Certainly they aren't inked yet, but just last year we got that top OL out of Oklahoma that Cav had been courting for a long time at OSU, but would never sign there. That would be the difference between making a little noise in the Pac 12 with developmental projects, and having the Big N on your helmet.

Riley committed ONE penalty and it was justified Saturday. The penalty thing was better Saturday. Riley won a championship in the CFL. He knows how to coach. The EVIDENCE we saw this last fall is that he knows how to recruit and close with kids. IF you can't see what more NU has to offer recruits and how much more support Riley has at NU then I can't help you. The recruiting organization and effort this new staff is putting forth is impressive. We are getting kids to visit and consider us seriously that we had NO shot at with Bo as our coach.

Just do yourself a favor and take a hard look at the visitor list this past Saturday. Good days are on the way, just let the man bring in his guys....

Not only that, but Steve Taylor made a great point on big red reaction. Who have we replaced Abdullah and Gregory with. Is it talent for talent. No disrespect to the players who replaced them, but we haven't replaced talent for talent there, and I'd even throw in Kenny Bell. Plus no DPE this year to speak of, and then there's this

A really nice man. First class all the way. I'd be happy to have him as my neighbor, friend, inlaw, etc. I just don't like him as our coach. I don't think he is a winner. We may not be talent rich but we do have enough talent to win at least 4 if not 5 of these games. He is failing. I go to the games. Look at his body language on the sideline. Head down, shoulders down. No purpose to his walk. Minimal intensity. The penalty was a complete outlier. Sorry.

Agreed. I just want to see progress.

I'm not all in as an act of faith, but I do think this team will start winning games starting this Saturday. Got to end on a positive note, bring in some good recruits, and build.

I'm still on board with Riley. The play calling in the Illinois game was a bit of a head scratcher, but I think Riley and Langsdorf have generally called decent games. Even with our weak running game.

Not sure I am sold on our OLine or DB coaches, but the number of injuries we've had on the defensive side (after having little depth already) of the ball are just catastrophic, but someway we still manage to stop the run. Am very impressed with Hughes and Bray.

You're making excuses. We should have 2 more wins at a bare minimum. If we quit throwing the ball so much we really could be undefeated.

Why would this staff give you any confidence? They have given me no reason to be confident whatsoever. We have a special teams "guru" pocketing 400k a year in charge of special teams that have been anything but special. GPR is in charge of his friends. Would he be willing to make changes? I seriously doubt it.

Lots of things I have seen.

We should have another win or two in our pocket but we have seen improvements this year with some extremely difficult circumstances.

You and a couple other guys in this thread can enjoy the doom and gloom six games into Riley's tenure. I'll be the guy rooting everyone on as we work to ink some top level talent out of CA. I wish I could meet the jackass who was sitting next to KJJ at the game so I could beat his ass.

"enjoy the doom and gloom" you can't be serious. Why would you think I'm enjoying this? I don't enjoy this one bit.

I'm really disappointed, not sure how much is due to poor coaching decisions or player injuries. However, if MR can get a top 20 or below rercruiting class, I'll be more understanding. Top 15, then i'll forgive and look forward to next year.

I was pretty upset after the Illinois game because I really didn't see a lot of positives in that game.

I'm not nearly as upset over the Wisconsin loss. Our defense against the run is salty and that's with a converted walkon at DE and a MASH unit of Linebackers. We need to tighten up in the secondary, but it started to show up in the first half against Wiscy. Yes, they still gave us 322 in the air, but it a tough 322. Wiscy made 2 incredible catches on the sidelines that were well defended. For the most part the secondary was in far better position to make plays this week than any other.

OL looks better over the past 2 weeks. They are maintaining blocks and giving better Pass Pro. Finally this week receivers started making catches. We need more consistency in our running game, and I think that will come once we settle on a running back, but I don't see that happening until next year or even the next. I don't really see Newby or Cross as guys who fit Riley's system. We also need more consistency from TA and he needs to make better decision on 3rd down. When it's 3rd and 7 we don't need to go deep every time. We need 7-8 yards, not 30. If TA ever learns to go through is progressions and either hit a long out or hit his outlet we'll start converting more 3rd downs. Right now it seems we're constantly trying to hit a home run on 3rd and long.

Overall I'm all N with Riley. I'm still not sold on Banker, and Langs needs some consistency with his play calling. But overall, the progression I've seen over the past 2 weeks is encouraging despite the losses. They are fighting, they are in position to make plays, now it comes down to execution. If you're in the right position long enough, execution will come. Maybe not this year, but soon enough execution will happen and this team will be a night and day different and it will pleasantly surprise folks.

I'm N....

Priority #1: I think the coaching staff are good people who we want to be mentoring young men. Hard to understate how disappointed I am with the previous HC's "Us vs the World" ideology that pitted the team against the fans. That justified the firing of the previous staff all on its own.

Priority #2: Technical Competence - Candidly disappointed in this area so far, in particular with the the offensive playcalling and clock management. However, despite those frustrations I do believe Mike is open to learning new things and he will continue to adjust his schemes to fit the conference and his personnel.

Priority #3: As has been discussed, and as the walk-on count on the travel roster demonstrates, our recruiting has been less than ideal and left us in our current predicament. In part due to the quality of the men, and second because of their apparent acumen as talent evaluators, I think the future will bring better things.

For this season, because I think conditions were much worse than I ever realized, I'm giving Riley a complete blank slate. I wish him, his staff and all our players the best, and regardless of the outcome I will be behind them.

Go Big Red!

You gotta love this board.

"I'm all N! I support Riley and his coaches and believe they will take us to the promised land!!!

I'm all N...except not for Tommy. He can't hit the broadside of a barn. When does that incoming freshman kid get here?
I'm all N...except for Newby. He falls down with a slight gust.
I'm all N...except for that fat defensive end.
I'm all N...except for our offensive line. They haven't made a hole all year. Can't wait for the recruits to get here.
I'm all N...except for our secondary. We simply need a whole new batch of guys back there.

OK...I'm all N for the coaches...Bo's groceries...not so much.

I can't take the negativity of this board. Why can't everyone be positive like me? We have to get rid of these trolls who won't be all N!"

Yeah...doesn't make much sense to me either.

You're making excuses. We should have 2 more wins at a bare minimum. If we quit throwing the ball so much we really could be undefeated.

You are really clueless.......They are actually trying to play to their strengths. The best players on the team are the wide receivers so they are trying to get them the ball. What a concept! yes the Qb has struggled but so has the Oline in run game.

Just do yourself a favor and take a hard look at the visitor list this past Saturday. Good days are on the way, just let the man bring in his guys....
I will not deny recruit seems to be already better. Just not sure why he needs to burn the program to the ground in order to build it back up. lol
