Ainsworth TE Carter Nelson Gets Bama Offer

I get that he's a tremendous athlete but I have my doubts he has a comittable offer. If he did then what is he waiting for? A Georgia offer? Why would Saban recruit a kid from halfway across the country when he can take his private jet to Atlanta and be back home in what, 3 hours. And he knows the competition is legit.

not sure if Coleman held a bama offer, but, committable or not, those don't come around too often for NE kids

Commitable offer?
Good question.
Alabama, who came up with the 'football analyst' is always on the cutting edge of questionable tactics.
They tend to make a lot of 'offers' as placeholders until its time for both the player and school to commit.

The kid runs like a deer and jumps like one too.
But does he smell like one, too...?

It's an honor to have interest from Alabama. Shows the kid has real potential. I guess the next step would be for him to travel to one of their camps for further evaluation.

He needs to get to work filling out that frame

How are these schools evaluating this kid, who is from the middle of nowhere and plays against terrible 8-man competition? You'd think they would at least want to see him in-person at their camps first. There have to be hundreds of kids down south who have equal or better measurables.

He’s a 7-foot high jumper and runs a 4.5 40. Those kind of athletes don’t grow on trees.

My guess, they aren't, not really. This is just a "Oh they offered, we should offer" to at least be on his radar.

I doubt it's a commitable offer. Kind of like how we have at least one recruit from the 2023 class that claims a georgia offer. Yeah, I bet. Someone turned down Georgia to sign with us, without a connection.

He probably goes to a lot of camps and most likely works with a place like Warren Academy. Thats how small school kids get offers.

Doesn’t stop some of the regular Debbie Downers on here from trying to downplay him. It’s like clockwork with the usual suspects.

I'm not downplaying him. Just doubting Nick Saban gave him a committable offer right now. OU? Sure. Michigan? Sure. But not Bama.

Would love if the kid came to Lincoln. Kids that size can play multiple positions as a bonus.

Why would Bama or Georgia Even waste their time on this kid if it’s not committable.

Happens all the time. It's not like Saban is flying to Nebraska every week to recruit him. Have one of his dozens of recruiting staff watch some film. Look up measurables. Reach out.

If there are so many kids down South that roll out of bed and do the same… why even bother watching his tape?

Probably because slightly less than half the state of Alabama is on Saban's recruiting staff. Kid seems like a tremendous athlete. But ask yourself, is his athletism enough to overcome the fact that he plays halfway across the country at a tiny school? Look how many kids Bama signs outside their radius. Not many.

Hopefully he signs with NU and it doesn't matter. No doubt we could use him.

Think of it as a notification of potential interest. But it’s highly unlikely that Georgia or Bama would accept his commitment at this time. Maybe down the road, but most guys get slow played, maybe, and almost always wind up committing to a 2nd tier school while showing an impressive “offer” list.

Last year Alabama signed players from: Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Oklahoma, Texas and Connecticut.

Everyone is getting upset. So let me provide an example of someone with a bunch of "offers".

Go look at the DB we signed out of Georgia. Claims offers from everyone in the south. Georgia. LSU. Bama. Florida. Clemson. Miami. Plus ND. Oregon.

But he signed with Nebraska. Seems perfectly legit that the 79th ranked player at his position has all those offers. But is going halfway across the country to a team that hasn't been to a bowl game in 5 years.

Same for that DT from Pennsylvania who only played football for a year. Claims an offer from Georgia. Yeah, I bet they would have taken his letter of intent. They would have just told a 5 star they can't sign because they don't have room anymore. Or cut a 2nd string guy who will be a 1st round draft pick in 2 years.

Not upset in the least (speaking for myself). Just confused by this fan base. For years we heard how it’s such a priority that every Johnny Tryhard from Central City has a spot to walk on at NU. Now that a kid like this comes along (with legit measurables, and yes I get he plays lowly 8 man), gets offers from the legit heavyweights in the sport…. And the narrative is turned to “yeah but there’s no way they are actually interested because he’s from a small town”.
Freaking weird reaction. A psychologist would have a field day with our fan base.

Any fan made if we're being objective here

I think there is a misunderstanding about offers. Just from my (horrible) coaching experience the offers TEND to work like this.

1. Committable: Staff has met with the kid, family, coaches and teachers/counselors, people like that. Kid has visited the campus and USUALLY taken an official, not always, but usually.

2. Offer/not committable: Staff says "we want to offer you a scholarship to attend XYZ but we want you to visit us first, right now you are at the top of our list for your position.

It isn't that they are not interested, it is that they are very interested but they treat scholarships like gold and they are doing their research. Just like Frost offered kids that never visited campus, they accepted and then left a few months later.

You offer to get THEM interested, because the worst thing you can do (as we saw with Frost) is NOT offer, wait, and then try to get involved late.

Are there instances when an offer is 100% committable right away, with no visits or anything like that, sure. It happens.
