A look NSide the 1890 Initiative

You lay the blame for that at Matt's feet? Really? Are you under the impression Matt identifies a player, lures him in with a NIL offer, then tells Rhule? Orrrr, and hear me out....the coach is the one who decides who they want and he tells 1890 "that's my guy".

I read your post as though if a portal player is a bust, it's Matt's fault? Yikes.
I have been skeptical of our NIL. Based on the last week, I am optimistic. I think we must be throwing some money around based on interest from guys like McCord and that so few players have entered off our team.

I also want to point out that I was saying they haven't been out there in the public eye raising money. They now seem to see the value in that. I threw them a donation this week.

you don't think others are paying non-football players?

I appreciate your opinion. top 15 is lofty, but you'd almost have to believe this to make the posts you make.

I'm not sure I'd place it in the top 50 given what's publicly available.

I also don't think we have many football players who have greener pastures to consider, but that's another thread I've already started.
Can you provide us with the information you have to make you believe we're not in the top 50

Rhule gave them a very public kick in the ass.

nice to see them responding & hope it keeps up. the head coach can't micromanage the Collective on top of everything else his job entails.

It becomes self sustaining at some point if they can show people that NIL donations are being put to good use. But they need to land a couple portal players for that to happen.

sure. here's just a sampling of the wealth (get it) of info out there:

this On3 article has us just inside the top 20, which is nice: https://www.on3.com/nil/news/on3-to...collectives-year-2-tennessee-texas-am-oregon/

it also mentions this, which is puzzling - athletic director Trev Alberts has not come out in support of the collective on NU’s official channels.

also this, which is interesting (and positive) - Five-Star Plus+ quarterback Dylan Raiola committed to Georgia last month. A Nebraska legacy, his father played for the Huskers and his uncle is currently Nebraska’s offensive line coach. Multiple sources have indicated to On3 that if NIL had been a major factor in his decision, he would be a Nebraska commit.

one thing you'll also see that paying every player on the active football/basketball roster is not unique, it's table stakes.

there isn't any public information that can be verified. It's really all a guess.

I'm not sure why you would discount the number of athletes they have on the payroll, But I guess you'd have to to always have a negative thought about husker athletics like you do.

every major program pays 100% of players on its active football and basketball roster something.

Thanks for the links. 1 of them gave me a butt load of pop-ups...🤯. 1 was from 2 years ago that only talked about sec. None of them provided any direct numbers relating to Nebraska.

I think nobody has a clue because like I said earlier, I'm not aware of an clearinghouse if you will that collectives report to. Only the irs may know really

The Husker online podcast had a NIL ‘expert’ on from On3 and he said very few are paying every football player in the roster. Like maybe 15-20 programs. After they spoke with him they were saying Nebraskas NIL situation was top 15.

Take it with a grain of salt. But that’s the only information I’ve heard that compares the NILs between programs.

Yeah risky statement "every major program paying 100%of their active players".

What are major programs? Only the ones paying 100%?

All. None. Always. Never.

Strong words that usually get proven wrong. Even ivory soap had to stop at 99.44% pure. Close but not 100%

there's no clearinghouse

there is, however, recruiting rankings, portal rankings, agents and plenty of public info available from which opinions can be derived

every men's/women's basketball player, gymnast & scholarship football player at Utah, for example, is leased a $65k car to drive.

and so on

Yes I read that about Utah. That was a private donation from a dealer through their collective. Definitely a nice perk but in reality not a huge money deal. Lease payments are probably around 400 per month. Curious to know who gets stuck for door dings and scratch penalty 🤔

You are correct that opinions derived. And that's all it is. SWAG method. Scientific wild as guess.

Start donating

I'm sure they do. But there are zero verified numbers available to the public. Nebraska pays a lot of athletes and there isn't a lot of football transfers. They must be doing something right.

could be.

this list from last year had UGA ranked 5th in the SEC alone while stating every player on its roster had an NIL deal.

how many of our football players do you think have the option of playing for pay elsewhere?

we went 5-7 last year and it's universally agreed upon that we have very, very little talent on the roster.

I listed 10 or so guys out of 85 who would get some looks at similarly resourced programs in another thread.

maybe 1 or 2 basketball players can say the same (Lawrence, Gary).

One thing you have to consider. I expected the $ec to have a headstart and a leg up on the competition. They already had their donors and bag men in place.

Nil only legalized what they've been doing for decades .

sure.

you also have to consider the possibility that it was us who had our bagmen in place, and now that payments are above board and can be solicited from across the entirety of the fanbase/booster community, we've struggled to keep up.

Outside of suh, we haven't had many players worthy of bag men so I'm thinking we didn't. Definitely not Reggie bush or cam Newton

Probably more than 10. There's probably 10 on the defense alone. Not including Robinson and the covid year guys coming back.

They're paying 150 athletes. It would appear they are willing to shell out 7 figures for a qb. They must be raising a lot of money. There are a lot of Husker fans, it doesn't take too many small dollar donation to start to add up either. In one of the replies above someone mention the on3 expert (whatever that means) says nebraska has a top 15 NIL.

Zero idea if that's true. I just don't think that they are as terrible as some think.

K. I was referring to "bagmen" not talent. When you said " we sure did" I thought you were referring to the same...bagmen
I answered this post about talent:

with this post about talent:

we sure did when we were winning and landing top 10 classes.

it's unclear what was confusing, but apologies if it was me

Because our conversation was about nil. Then I brought up bagmen which is what I thought the topic still was. I didn't realize that you moved to talent even though I kinda brought it up about suh

I know, I know

this is heresy

but I don't think it's crazy to consider it a possibility, no matter how remote we'd like to believe it may be
I've said it before. Knew players from multiple years and I can't speak for a Lawrence Phillips type player, but there were no bag men for anyone I was associated with. No cash or cars.

I wonder what they'd say for the LP types, which put us over the top & are exactly why we'd employ bagmen, if in fact we did.

the odds of it happening may be low, but they're not zero. especially if what everyone says about the SEC teams we were competing with is true.

300 K so far. Keep kicking ass Husker Nation!!

We need to keep kicking ass not only for Football, but for Volleyball too! Those gals deserve a lot more
My experience is VB has a somewhat unique set of fans. I don't have any doubts VB will be just fine. The people I know who are into VB would likely donate to VB but not football. VB is just different. Women. They are really good. And it's just so much more of a personable sport than football.

Cmon dude, really?? You want to take it down to they are women? Who frickin cares?!?! These women deserve the best and more than the football team at this point. If they win on Sunday you can bet your ass they deserve a place at the training table.
