450 million dollar upgrades coming to Memorial Stadium!! BOR Approved

I don't think Idaho Husker realizes how much money and no debt NU actually has. Nebraska Athletics are a cash cow.
NU athletic profits have no bearing on NIL
NIL has to be privately funded

You have donors who are plenty willing to donate for locker rooms and stadium seats but not talent acquisition

Very cool. Sounds like it'll be tough for at least a couple seasons but should be worth it in the end.

With as much money as they're spending, I am curious if they gave any real thought to just going ahead and building an entirely new stadium? Then bulldozing Memorial Stadium and the university could repurpose the land to whatever it was that they needed.
That's all well and good, but there Is just zero chance of that happening do to our history IMO unless a structural issue is found that couldn't be fixed. Natural disaster strikes, say tornado earthquake and destroys the stadium.
I do imagine it would be more cost effective to build a brand new stadium vs work on a structure where parts of it are 100 years old.

$450 million!
I'm probably wrong, but many many years ago when stadium expansion and/or upgrades were being discussed wasn't the idea of relocating the stadium between Lincoln & Omaha discussed?

At the time I thought $500 million was tossed out as the potential cost of such a project and was immediately dismissed as way too expensive. Costs have gone up since then. 🙃

OK. We'll, do you think our donors and sponsors are a bunch of dirt farmers?
Not at all - for some reason they are more than happy to payout for buildings, locker-rooms, saunas and stadium seats but are not talent acquisition. Many high end donors are still very philosophically opposed to paying players

That would be terrible. NU has one of the best if not the best game day experiences because of the atmosphere. On campus. Right on the edge of a downtown with countless bars. With some tailgating lots. Throw in the history and you have the makings of a great atmosphere.

Exactly. I don't think the Lincoln businesses downtown would like the loss of business and money. Lol.

Play like a star. Make Heisman money. Imagine how much Crouch, Suh and Frazier would have made?
You get a guy and you better pay him. It was easy for Lincoln Riley to bring Willams over, but who is next? Does he roll with a highly ranked high schooler or is he fishing around other rosters.

Drake Maye wouldn’t name the party, but he was offered big money to leave NC. I believe him.

NU was predicted to have lots of nil money due to fan support but it was mismanaged under frost and previous admins. Last I saw we were nowhere near the top.

My understanding is that East, West and South will all have chairback seats in the future but North stadium will remain bleachers. Is that correct?

That’s a lot of money to rebuild South end zone (plus some other upgrades). Too bad there isn’t a way to alter the stadium such that the majority of seats are on the sidelines. I have never seen another large stadium with over half of the seats in the end zones.

I know that it happens all the time but I just don't see how it could be done with Memorial Stadium. Too many moments in time to just crumble it away.

Trev Alberts Stadium Renovation Press Conference Notes: -January 2022 a survey was sent out, 22,000 responded, then created an executive team to create a vision for Memorial Stadium -Create a facility that enhances the evolving fan experience -modernize Memorial Stadium so that it is sustainable for the next century -make sure Memorial Stadium is accessible for everyone -$450 million project -360 degree concourse was crucial -South stadium most impacted, but all other sides will be impacted too -want to activate memorial stadium more than 7 Saturdays in the fall -went out to Wisconsin, Notre Dame, and the Cubs to gain inspiration -Wisconsin because they did an endzone project -Notre Dame because they did academic integration -Cubs because they had a very detailed approach into the diehard fans wants -South stadium is meant to embrace the students as well as the band -$45 million initial infrastructure fee allows this to get started immediately, hope to be approved on the 5th -around Jan 25th, South stadium will be demolished -hopefully only one season of disruption, but not guaranteed -Trev is preparing himself for 2 seasons of disruptions however -asks fans to be patient, there will be disruptions for some fans -trying to connect south stadium to east and west is not feasible without demolition -still don’t have approval, but confident -want chair backs on south, east, and west. Not north because of complications with tread depth -no definitive answers on grandfathered clause when talking about reducing 10,000+ seats -prepared for good, bad, and ugly criticism -ENVISIONS 75,000 MAX CAPACITY (yikes) -student section plan is not finished -not sure if the amount of student tickets sold will change -restarting East and west wouldn’t be financially feasible -“the students drive the energy” (YES) -the goal is to not have any disruptions for the 2024 season -basic modernization such as WiFi, concessions will greatly enhance the experience -hopes to have a little fun in the demolition of South Stadium -there will be fewer students for one season that will have access to football games
