I liked his route trees and ability to scheme guys open. The problem IMO was that it didn’t mesh well with a injury and suspension depleted O line.
We should have been at this point last year.
But somebody decided that an unprecedented move of firing half the coaching staff was a gamble worth trying. Despite the fact that Frost had checked out. On the grand hope that replacing buddies with strangers would enable a checked-out Frost to succeed despite himself.
It is nice to read about adults being in charge. I am sure it happened with the old staff, but this staff absolutely seems like they run practice and too bad if some guys don't like it. I don't imagine we will be reading about some player(s) quitting multiple times during the season. This staff seems pretty professional.

I’m willing to bet it ran much deeper that this. Obviously Frost should have been fired at the end of 2021 season. His contract was restructured and I think 3 on his staff were let go (happens an awful lot, with mixed results). Maybe Trev didn’t like the possible replacement coaches available at the end of 21. Had he fired Frost in 21, Rhule isn’t our coach today. We have yet to see him coach a game for the huskers, but I’m thinking I’ll be pretty happy when everything is said and done with Rhule as our coach. Not sure who it might have been in 22, but would they have been as good as Rhule potentially will be? Time will tell I guess…
At this point there's nothing to be gained by rehashing the old coaches including Frost or what would have been if either this or that happened. Save the energy for the upcoming season and move forward.
If they had just let Joseph coach the whole year as interim starting asap like what Baylor did with Briles and Grobe, they'd have won 6 games probably and been no worse off with Rhule 😂 but that's a pointless hypothetical, and Baylor had better excuses for appointing a one-year interim who was aware of the temporary nature of the position and wasn't interested in sticking around, what's done is done as cap said above.
If Gottula can provide depth at T this year, that would be huge. They're a little thin at T with Rouse going to OU, Hood still developing, and Prochazka working his way back from injury.
I'm looking forward to see what they do with the tight ends this year. All the talk so far seems to indicate they really plan to take advantage of the tight end position(s). We'll see, hope it comes true.

I think it wasn’t quite that simple. There were multiple factors in play from booster support for Frost to a lack of viable candidates to replace him. That changed this past fall.
Big mistake from SF. If he wanted to collect checks for 2-3 years more years all he would have had to do was say something like " I am going to run Tom Osborne's offense. But I do not know if husker fans will give me the time to install this hard nosed physical offense." The collective freakout would have given him more years instead of....another pass first stubborn playcaller who could not adjust to having qbs who had issues throwing.

One big factor that could help the tackle position is Arik Gilbert. He is a grown man and should help shore up the edge blocking.
Yep. Hindsight is 20/20 and I wanted Frost fired in 2021. But it may work out in our favor if Rhule turns out to be as good as he seems to be. As you say... time will tell. But I am genuinely optimistic for Husker football in a way I have not been since around 2009.
By “somebody decided” to keep Frost, I didn’t necessarily mean Trev. I was thinking more about boosters you mention trying to call the shots.
In any case, time to move on. I hope Rhule gets us to a bowl game this year and builds positive momentum.

It's more out of respect for how much work he's put In over the past few years.
Looks like we got a good one, knows his stuff everything I’ve read players and recruits like him, bright future.
I was skeptical at first with him being so young. But being a coaches son he has a head start on others. And his youth looks like an advantage relating to the players. He will probably be a Head coach one day like his old man.
