Just finished the series. I know it was dramatized but, man, we have become so soft as a people (myself definitely included). Those pioneers set out knowing there was a very good chance they wouldn't survive the journey but took the risk anyway searching for a better life.

Nowadays most folks aren't willing to give up anything of real consequence, especially their comforts. Our ancestors would be spinning in their graves seeing what we've become and how little we value the sacrifices of those who came before us.

Those Norwegians or Swedes, or whatever the hell they were got destroyed on that journey

I liked 1923 better than 1883.

The narrator chick with her fake accent screws the whole thing IMO.

You could always just turn the volume down and watch the narrator chick and not listen to her.

The thing is, those people in 1883 had it way better than the generation before them, so for them, it was "good"

In reality, for the most part, it was not until the 1950's when things started to get "easy".

With that said...I either won't do or will totally bitch about having to do light yard work.

I think 1883 and 1923 are far better than Yellowstone. Yellowstone is like a half assed Montana Sopranos wannabe.
Old Timey, western violence seems believable. You could get away with shooting people dead.

I don’t think that’s really the case today

Not that I expect you to remember the script, but do you recall many conversations in that series beginning with, "I just feel like..."?

Most of the people made that journey out of necessity. You were watching a show about the people who had to take the risk. The alternate show would be about some plantation owner in Virginia with servants and a wine cellar. They weren't riding across the plains risking anything either. Plenty of people risk plenty these days, it's just that a lot of people hate them so they view it as a negative.

Yeah, but even kings and the super wealthy didn't have the luxuries that we take for granted today. Sure, it was definitely much easier for the rich, but they still had it rough by today's standards. Most people were way more self-sufficient and knew how to make their own clothes, grow their own food, and live off the land. Now society would devolve into absolutely chaos if the internet went down for 4 days.

The making your own clothes thing is extremely underrated

I don't hate Yellowstone, but I'm amazed at how popular it is. Not even close to Taylor Sheridan's best work, in my opinion.

Sicario was a masterpiece. Wind River and Hell or High Water were also good movies. The TV series of his that I like best is Mayor of Kingstown.

Just getting into the series, really digging Sam Elliot in this show, acting is phenomenal. I don’t know what it is about actors aging but they seem to do their best work.

I often think when I feel tired and times are tough about the Oregon trail. Yes they had wagons but most walked instead of adding weight for the animals to pull.

And then I think of the struggles and sacrifices my family made through the great depression and ww2. Yes we're soft and spoiled and most have no clue what real "want" is.

Terrible overacting by the three leads. Narrator chick voice is so fake and whispery it pisses me off. She also looks 14 I dont know how anyine finds her attractive. I mean shes pretty but again, 14. And very annoying.

But yeah we have it so easy and are absolute panzies by comparison.

We still had an outhouse until storm took it in1998. Came in handy in 1976 when out of electricity for 4 weeks. 3 holer. 2 adult and 1 child.....great foresight by ancestors
That was high tech huskerfan. We had a one seater on our farm with your choice of corncobs or a catalog.
And my grandma had a 2 seater with toilet paper. But, she had money. LOL

I live in the city now, with all the normal amenities. But, I do have 4 4X4's, an 8' 3/4" playwood, and all the materials needed to put in an area to dispose of waste in the event of a prolonged power outage. We even bought some stuff that turns the urine into gel, and I have some straw bales to use to get rid of waste, and plenty of lime. I hope I never need to use it, but you can't build an outhouse on your city property in this city.

I even sprang for 2 portable showers to be used outdoors. If my wife and daughter can't take a shower everyday, I will have a mutiny on my hands. My credo: "It's better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it." lol

I have always loved you posts.. But you are freaking me out.

Sorry about that Chuck, but as huskerfan says, you're gonna have to have a place to dispose of waste in case of a long term power outage. If I had my druthers, I would prefer an outhouse to having to built a makeshift disposal area.

It's just a topic not many people think about. But, like the book says, "Everybody Poops."

Elsa is the same actress who played the love interest of Sheldon's brother from Young Sheldon when he was younger.
